So what did I do on my summer vacation?
Many years ago, our United Church forebearers decreed that a minister should have one month of vacation. They were wise. One month of vacation begins in your first year as a minister and continues all through your career, unlike other places where you add a week after working so many years.
As the child of a minister, I grew up with my father always taking one month of vacation. And as I child, I spent it at a cottage in the Gatineau, north of Ottawa.
Anyone done some interesting reading at the cottage or just lounging around at home? My summer reading:
Princess of Mars & Gods of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs - Civil War vet travels to Mars via out-of-body experience and becomes a great hero and adventurer among the various peoples of the red planet. A seminal work of sf/fantasy. Movie coming out next spring that appears to be Princess with some elements of Gods thrown in.
If you were attending a summer hymn sing, what would get your feet tapping, move your spirit, make you feel the Presence?
I post this because I heard a group sing "Sunny Side"the other day and smiled the whole way through. A friend came in to church the other day singing "O Happy Day" and then I heard a woman in the grocery store softly singing "Down By the Riverside"....
This morning I'm shaving my legs, packing up a picnic lunch, slapping on some sunscreen and heading to the beach . Summer finally fought its way through the fog and is here at last with our first hot weekend day and Somegrandma, Somekid and I are off to Martinique for a nice long walk, some boogie boarding, playing in the sand and lunch. Well, I doubt Somegrandma will be boogie boarding and playing in the sand, but I imagine that she will come for a walk
So, I haven't posted in due to my graduation and subsequent road trip straight to camp.
The good news: I'm enjoying camp, I bought stuff at west ed, and I'm back with my girlfriend. We worked a lot out. She is snuggling me right now :3
The bad news: Being at camp for a week at a time means that I will not be able to get to a computer as often as I would like. I forgot my speakers so my mom has started compiling a 'care package' to mail to me :P
