Mon pays ce n'est pas un pay, c'est l'hiver

Or, as George RR Martin ominously puts it in A Game of Thrones, "Winter is coming."

London got its first real snowfall of the 2011-2012 season this morning. How about the rest of the country?

I am Praying for Very Cold Weather -20 Makes Me Happy

I know this is one of my most controversial posts. I am coming out and admitting that I am praying for cold weather. You see my favorite activity is skating on the Rideau Canal.

When I lived in Ottawa in 1970-72 the canal would be open in December. Now we are lucky if it opens by the middle of January. Soon we will not be able to skate on the canal at all.   So pray for extremely cold

Weird, wacky and fun seasonal stuff

A video posted on Facebook prompted me to start this thread. I'm kind of tired of Christmas/seasonal stuff already and the video at the link below sums it up. Anyone got other seasonal items that are weird, wacky and fun to break the monotony? (I'd like to add the proviso that I'm not talking about church being monotonous but the overall culture surrounding our winter celebrations.)

The Last Blast

I hope!

For those that live in sunny climes, I awoke this morning to a cold north wind and falling snow - go ahead, be green with glee.

For my fellow northerners, I found this cartoon yesterday (did I mention that I get to surf the net looking for cartoons at work - I love my job)...

How do you beat the mid winter blues?

Much of the holiday feasting is a faded memory.

The first few steps out the door find our nostrils freezing shut or our feet fighting for purchase in the slithery slathery slush.

It's getting a little bit brighter to start and end the day.  But many of us are still leaving for work in the dark and returning in the dark.

Seasonal Affective Disorder is, I am sure, at or near its zenith.
