labels and denominations of faith

i had a thought the other day when having another profound conversation with my mother. :)

why are there different religions? why are there different denominations? why are we, as a human race, separated into these sects of faith?

the way i see it, everyone is different. now, don't get me wrong here. i'm not talking about when we were all in kindergarden, sitting in a circle and the teacher went on and on about how everyone is "special." i'm talking about how we were created. we all see things differently based on our own experiences, beliefs, morals..etc.

now we, as religious peoples, are separated. muslim, jewish, christian, catholic, buddist...all that stuff. what i don't understand is how we can be placed under these labels. just because i'm christian does not, by any means, suggest that i think the same as the guy sitting in the pew behind me on sunday morning. being put into a group suggests that everyone in that group is the same...and the truth is we're not.

my mum and i determined that we are not christian, nor catholic, nor muslim, nor jewish....i am a "dear.prudenceist." i believe what i do, because i do. noone thinks the same as i do, and there is nothing that i can do about it.

i may be ranting on and on about nothing...but i felt i had to blog about this stuff. thoughts?

Hi d.p.: Welcome to wondercafé!

Every one of us is an individually unqiue being, and every religious denomination is a unique cultural group. If we don't believe that we, as individuals or groups, are absolutely right, but regard our differences as necessary and artistic, then we can joyously share our differences with each other, as we do here on this wonderful institution called wondercafe.

See you in the discussion lounge!

Hello dearprudence........God bless you.....

I believe things got lost over the thousands of years ...I say I am christian but sometimes I am not sure ....I believe in the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit...but some things in christianity just dont seem to ring true for me ....so I know for sure I am a follower of Jesus Christ and continue on my journey this way...staying in Christ helps me grow and learn...not doctrine but Spirituallity.....

Arminius: thank you! i agree! religion and morality in general are deffinitely to be discussed. especially here. it is only through talking that we can trully grow in faith.

bygraceiam: what you say is deffinitely true. all we know is that we believe and have faith in the Holy Spirit.

thank you for your input!
