Workshop on church buildings - planning, futures

apologies if notice of this event was posted previously, but this seems like an important event for congregations that have questions about their building, and let's face it, who doesn't?

This Old House... of Worship - Toronto Area Workshop

Nov 22nd 2008

9:30 a.m. to 4:30  p.m.

New Hope United Church, Vaughan

‘In what ways is your church building helping your congregation's mission; in what ways is it hindering that mission?’

When I read the above question describing the workshop I thought it was a very interesting way of framing questions that a lot of congregations ask themselves, dumb, blunt, have-to-be-asked questions like Can we afford to run this building? and Do we need such a big space?

This day long workshop looks like it will to bring some creativity to the questions, opening them up so maybe the challenges won't feel so overwhelming, as they often do... The day will have sections on property development, taking stock of real costs, sustainability, greening your buidling, and thinking outside the box.

I think participation is supposed to be organized through your church, so you might call your church's office to find out if anyone's going, or get a group together. It costs $40 for each participant.... Registration closed officially on the 12th but I believe there are still spots open.

It will be at New Hope United Church, situated in Vaughan, in one of the exterior storefront units in the north- east corner of Vaughan Mills Shopping Complex, at the corner of Rutherford Road and Jane Street in 'Tuscany Place'. www.newhopevaughan.com/ContactUs.dsp
