Adolphustown/Conway Pastoral Charge is a two point charge with the Adolphustown United Empire Loyalist (UEL) Centennial United Church situated on County Road 8 at Dorland, and Conway United Church situated at the junction of County Road 1 and the Loyalist Parkway. While this area once supported four United Churches, Hayburn (est. 1867) and Sillsville (est. 1890) were closed by Presbytery action in 1968. With the merger of Adolphustown and Conway United Churches in 1995, we are one congregation, worshipping in both buildings on alternate Sundays.

We are active participants in outreach programs such as seniors' home teas, Christmas flower delivery, greeting cards, baby gifts, food and financial donations to schools, the Salvation Army, Interval House, Alcohol and Drug Concerns and Children's Needs Services.

About the Neighbourhood

Adolphustown/Conway Pastoral Charge, located in Greater Napanee, Lennox & Addington Co., Ontario, is bordered by the shores of Hay Bay and the Bay of Quinte. A wide range of educational opportunities are within or just beyond our borders. Sandhurst Public School is located along the shores of the Bay of Qunite on Loyalist Parkway while H. H. Langford Public School is located closer to Napanee on County Road 8. Local secondary schools include Napanee District Secondary School in Napanee and Ernestown Secondary School in Odessa. Higher education is readily available with two excellent community colleges within our reach: Loyalist College, Belleville and St. Lawrence College, Kingston. Kingston is also home to the internationally renowned Queen's University.

We are fortunate to have several health care options including the Lennox and Addington County Hospital located in Napanee. Staffed with caring professionals, it includes a surgeon on staff and an emergency room. Kingston is home to Kingston General Hospital, a teaching hospital associated with Queen's University, Hotel Dieu Hospital and St. Mary's of the Lake, a rehabilitation facility.

A number of recreational interests can be pursued in our area. The surrounding waters lend themselves to sailing and fishing. Hay Bay boasts of several fishing tournaments, including the annual Walleye Tournament, attracting anglers from across the province and the United States. Napanee is the proud home of a new sports facility, the Strathcona Paper Centre, which opened in September 2004. This complex includes a double ice pad, a banquet centre, a sports store, a physiotherapy clinic, and a fitness centre. Other sports options include baseball, tennis, soccer, darts, curling, figure skating, aqua fit, shuffle board...the list is almost endless. For those who prefer to curl up with a good book, community services also include a satellite branch of the county library located at the South Fredericksburgh Community Centre.

Historically consisting of small farms, the area now has large cash crop operations. Vineyards and apple orchards dot the countryside. The community is a mix of retirees and those working in or near the area. Local employers include the Lennox Generating Station, LaFarge Cement, and Hay Bay Genetics. Napanee is home to the Goodyear production plant and Kingston has many employment opportunities to offer within an easy commute.

The wide range of recreational opportunities, coupled with the area's natural beauty, attracts a large number of tourists each year. Many return year after year to spend their summer as members of the community in places such as Bass Cove Park, Adolphustown Park and Museum, Pickerel Park, and Blakewood Lodge. It is only a short, scenic ferry ride to Prince Edward County, home to Sandbanks Provincial Park with kilometres of sandy beach.

It is not surprising, given this wide range of services and attractions, that an increasing number of new housing developments have been established, primarily along the water in Adolphustown, and there is continued expansion of the Sandhurst Shores subdivision.
