Applewood United Church is a welcoming and open Christian community of over 300 families. We are a growing congregation where our ministers lead and encourage our members to be part of Applewood’s ministry. We offer a warm, exciting opportunity to be part of a vibrant faith community.

Faith is a life long journey. Many are just exploring, some are deeply devoted and others have more questions than answers. Whatever your level of commitment, you are welcome to join the Applewood family.

As we open ourselves to new possibilities, we take risks and we dare to dream. We think and explore new ways. Our faithfulness and willingness to serve can change our own lives and bring meaning and hope to the lives of those around us.

Sunday morning worship provides a time for Sunday School, a Nursery and a Youth Group meeting. Following the services, a fellowship time for all is enjoyed.

We are located in southeast Mississauga on Stanfield Road, one block west of Dixie Road and one block north of the North Service Road, behind Applewood Village Plaza. There is ample parking in the plaza parking lot, and limited parking for disabled and seniors on the church property. A shuttle bus runs between the west end of the plaza parking lot and the Church, except in summer.

About the Service

Please come and join us in Worship. Our services provide inspiration and strength for living, including some alternative, intergenerational services with excellent music and drama. The Sacrament of Holy Communion is celebrated six times a year and on special occasions. All are welcome to participate. Baptism services are held regularly.

About the Neighbourhood

The Applewood neighbourhood is a quiet, homey part of Mississauga, close to the Etobicoke border, once surrounded by apple orchards, and now filled with friendly streets and family homes and grand trees.  It has always had a strong sense of community and that continues now.  Many of the church programs reach out beyond our Sunday Morning congregation, like our Pancake Suppers, Summer & March Break children's programs, Mom's n' Tot's group and more.

Applewood United Church

Church Minister

Rev. Cynthia R. Stretton

Rev. Cynthia R. Stretton believes in the Wacky World of Worship – yes God does have a sense of humour and I am a testament to it!

Born and raised in Dunnville, Ontario (40 miles on the way to anywhere-Hamilton, Simcoe, Buffalo, St. Catharines) it took me a long time to hear God calling but when she did, I heard loud and clear.

Did my B. A. at the University of Guelph followed by my M.Div. from Queen’s.

Ordained in 1986 by Hamilton Conference, I have served Sebright Pastoral Charge (2 yr., Lindsey Presbytery)  Kitchener St.-St.Paul’s-Chippawa Niagara Falls Pastoral Charge ( 5 years Niagara Presbytery), St. Luke’s-on-the-hill United Church (11 years Halton Presbytery) and Fairlawn Avenue United Church (6 years Toronto South Presbytery) and now finally Applewood United in Halton Presbytery in Mississauga.

I see God everywhere and in everyone. I love the writings of Joan Chittister and other writers who push me to go to my inner core.

Biggest challenges – technology!  I am slowly learning and writing worship services on and for media use. And never having enough chocolate.

Stay tuned for other updates.
