We are a small congregation with 20-35 people attending on Sundays. We have a big dream, though. We are in the process of redeveloping our site as a Seniors Residence with church and community space on the main floor. We look forward to providing these much needed enhancements to our community.
We are also committed to our relationship with Youth Without Shelter, a wonderful place in Rexdale that helps young people get back on their feet when life has beaten them down. We take meals of home-cooked comfort food there on some weekends and we provide Christmas gifts and money to help out.
Internationally we focus on The Canadian Foodgrains Bank. We learn more about what to do about world hunger through their educational resources and guest speakers and we help financially with the Loaves and Fishes Growing Project of Foodgrains in Simcoe County. We help out with money, the farmer donate fields and their time, and Foodgrains uses the proceeds of the crops to alleviate hunger in some areas of the world.
Our services are quite casual and can take many different forms. The first Sunday of the month we have a traditional service with organ music and a more traditional format. On the other Sundays, music is provided by our band of piano, bass guitar and drums. The sermon time takes many different forms, often with opportunity for the people to say what they think about the topic of the day. We often use videos, art or photographs to help develop the theme.
The Bedford Park neighbourhood has many seniors, but also many families living the busy life of work and kids. There is more visible diversity that just a few years ago. People love the convenience of living so close to the subway and the shops on Yonge Street.
Our church supports the community by hosting many different activities. Our lead tenant is the Yes I Can! nursery school. Other groups range from Brownies and Guides to puppy training.
Covenant Baptist Church and Korean Pilgrim Presbyterian Church also share our facility
Barbara is a second career minister. She was a Public Health Nurse before becoming a minister. She is interested in new expressions of faith and constantly experimenting with how to provide worship that gives the opportunity for an experience of the holy.
