Canton was one of the first churches in the area. It began in a small wooden chapel in 1832 under the Methodist banner. In 1876, a new sanctuary was built by local craftsmen. The picture shows both buildings. This is quite a heritage to maintain but faithful people carry on with great hope. They just added a steel roof which is a positive thing to say about their future. While few attend at the moment they are always serving their community especially at the time of loss. Their ministry of hospitality is a legend in the area.
Sunday at 11:30 During the summer, services are held with our sister churches at the homes of people in their gardens. A schedule will be published soon to indicate locations
Canton is a hamlet that straddles CR 10 just north of the 4th Line. It's biggest claim to fame is that the Rt. Hon. Vincent Massey called Canton home. We serve a mainly rural population, although some of our members come out from Port Hope to worship.
