Silent Auction October 22 146th Anniversary with Rev. Don Parsons at 10 and the Buffalo Silver Band at 3 tickets $10
As part of a Methodist Circuit, our congregation began meeting in 1862 in a small white church on the north side of East Main Street where the present bus terminal is located. Our present building at King and Young Streets was erected in 1882. In 1907, the spikes on a city Road Roller caused a fire that destroyed all but the outer walls of the building. The church was rebuilt and, in 1925, when the Congregational, Methodist and Presbyterian Churches joined together, Central became part of The United Church of Canada. The bell in our belfry was originally set in the waters off Port Colborne to warn ships of the rocks. When it was replaced with a fog horn in the 187, an enterprising member of the congregation drove his team of horses to the port and claimed the bell for our church. We host Harvest Kitchen every Sunday evening from November to March and a barbeque the last Sunday of the month from April to October. For over 146 years families in the Welland area have met at Central to worship God, grow in faith and serve their community. OFFICE HOURS: Tuesday - Thursday: 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. / FRIDAY: 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Sunday Morning Worship Services begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by Coffee Time and Fellowship Coffee is also offered before worship.
Central United Church is located in downtown Welland and attracts people from the surrounding area and from all walks of life. We feel called by God to be a caring community where people are welcomed and accepted. As we share life, we grow in faith through fellowship, worship, outreach and learning to follow Jesus Christ. Our goal is to seek new ways to show God's love to our neighbours and the community at large.
Rev. Chris, his wife Jennifer and their son Nahum joined us on July 20, 2008. He came to us from a settlement charge in Manitoba. We are enjoying his energy.
