WELCOMING! OPEN! INCLUSIVE! FRIENDLY! Christ United Church is located in the scenic village of Lyn Ontario. People have been worshipping with us for 131 years. Over time many changes have happened and more are being planed for the future. We're a growing family focused church with programs for everyone who calls us home, from the youngest to the oldest and all those in-between. Christ United is a lively and caring congregation that seeks to live out our faith in our every day lives. With the relaxed and authentic leadership style of our minister Rev. Bob, music leadership of Susan , inspiring and relevant worship, great fellowship, and new programs we look forward to seeing you in worship soon.

About the Service

Our services begin at 10:30 AM each Sunday. Our services range from traditional to blended with contemporary music and the use of projection technology with a down to earth sermon by Rev. Bob

About the Neighbourhood

Christ United's home is the historic village of Lyn. Our church was founded by faithful people in 1875 and served as a founding congregation for others in the area. Located 10 minutes from Brockville many of our people work there while enjoying the relaxing atmospher and space of coutnry living. As the largest church in town we seek to involve and serve the community as much as possible.

Quick Facts

Who do I contact with questions?

Contact Doris in our office or Rev. Bob. Use the contact info above to reach either of them.

What music is played during services?

Martina Merpaw leads our music ministry consisting of mostly organ and piano music. We're currently expanding our music ministry to include both new instruments and sounds as part of worship.

What's heavenly about your church?

It really is the family atmosphere created by the people and staff. We really care about one another.

How do people dress for service?

Most people dress casually, yet some prefer to come dressed-up. Pretty much everything goes here from shorts in the summer to jeans in the winter. Being comfortable in worship is the key.

What happens after the service?

There's always lots of fellowship after a service. For some people this is their only conversation time and you'll certainly see lots of that! At least every second week we have a Fellowship

Church Minister

Rev. Bob K. Fillier

Rev. Bob is a preacher's kid who was born and raised in Newfoundland where he attended Memorial University and completed a B.A. (Hon) in Social Cultural Anthropology where he authored a thesis on Ministry: are women treated different? It was while living in St. John's that he met and married his partner Victoria, who is herself a candidate to be ordained in May 2007. It was while working with his home congregation's youth group, the finance committee, editing the newsletter and Memorial University's Chaplaincy Department, that Bob first felt called to Ordained ministry. With his B.A. complete he and Victoria along with their two children moved to Ontario where Bob completed his Masters of Divinity at Queen's Theological College. Over time he has served many congregations from Newfoundland to British Columbia including 5 in Ontario. Currently Bob is in his 2nd year of a Doctoral program in preaching throuhg the University of Chicago. It is this experience that informs his leadership and preaching with Christ United. An avid movie buff and self professed chocoholic, while Bob's been with Christ United things have certainly been on the move addressing the needs of a growing congregation. Bob has also been called to serve on various church committees which include the areas of training for ministry, authoring the ethical section on nuclear waste for the National Church and the areas of ministry personnel and education for the Bay of Quinte Conference. Yet, with all of his moving around and church experiences he'll tell you what he's proud of most is his partner Victoria, son Bobby and daughter Rebecca. It is his family that keeps him grounded and energized for the work of ministry. Bob looks forward to greating you at Christ United in the near future!
