Wardsville, situated on the north bank of the Thames River, is located about the same distance ( 50 to 60 km.) from London and Chathan Ontario on old highway #2 (Longwoods Rd) . It was a stage coach stop in the 1800's and it's history includes the War of 1812. It was an important automobile and truck stopping place until the new four lane Highway 401 went south of it in the 1960's. The population now stands at about 400 people and it offers a quiet place to live. Wardsville can brag of probably being the place where one of the first automobiles in Canada was built. The Shamrock 1 and 2 were built by the Mimna Brothers in Wardsville in the 1890's. Wardsville enjoys having an 18 hole golf course as a part of their main street as well as a credit union, auto garage, a variety store, tire store, a post office, restaurant, cafe and fire hall. The local park at the top of Haggarty Rd is renown for it's baseball diamond. Also situated in the park is a picnic pavilion and new playground. In 2006, a new municipal water system was installed throughout the entire village. Wardsville has a lot to offer people of all ages.
The Rev. Richard Golden is contracted by Wardsville United Church to be our minister. He currently, also serves the United Churches in Melbourne and North Ekfrid.
