Facebook Post

I have posted a perspective on our project. The language reflects my point of view.

"This in from the WonderCafe2 project taking shape as WonderCafe prepares to leave the scence. The place is morphing, taking on form reflecting inclination and imagination of diverse persons.

First the possibility was broached and freely engaged. A core consensus began to emerge. It was decided that through shared responsibility members of the consensus could explore a variety of possibilities.

The possibilities were narrowed down and defined. We would host a second WonderCafe. The project to continue firmly rooted in memory of the United Church, though discontinuous by virtue of our own decision for free creative responsibility.

We are in effect a free association of persons working together to serve a common purpose. That purpose may be considered as the establishment and maintenance of a discourse conditioned only by freedom, responsibility, creativity and courage.

For me this has been an experiment in fishing on the other side of the boat. As such it is not well measured by standards governing the customary side of the boat.

We are shaping a circle of difference where voices from all quarters are heard and respected. This is the goal in view, but not yet obtained.

If you are curious, the record will show that in short order, and in good order, our adhoc project has gone from no leadership to a provisional leadership.

That provisional leadership made possible definition of guiding principles and terms. It has also structured a process by which three moderators have been selected by nomination.

United Church folk will appreciate that all this has been done in partnership with those in the Church charged with stewardship of the WonderCafe and the Emerging Spirit campaign.

WonderCafe is closing and WonderCafe2 is waiting to occupy its tremendous potential for service as a meeting place for the Church in its diaspora. Perhaps there is a gift in you sufficient to the opportunity and the challenge!"

Stay tuned.
