G8 Prayer Vigil - June 24th to June 26th

You are invited to be part of our silent Prayer Vigil from June 24th to June 26th. As the world leaders gather during this special time for the G8 Summit here in Huntsville, we will hold them in prayer. A sacred flame will burn on the green space between Trinity and the Town Hall. It will burn continuously during this time and will be constantly attended by a variety of faiths including some of the Christian Communities in Huntsville as well as the Buddhist, Muslim, Bahai and the First Nations.

Our prayer is that the G8 Leaders may together share inspired leadership and courageous action in the fulfillment of the set out millennium goals. As well as a tent for silent prayer there will also be opportunities for discussion and celebration.

A quote from the 2010 Religious Leaders’ Summit statement:

“A common tenet in many faith traditions is that we should treat others as we would have them treat us.  This “Golden rule” is a basic human principle which cuts across cultures and faith traditions, and calls us to a collective standard of mutual care.

As a people of faith and as concerned global citizens, we urge our communities to do our part to reduce poverty, care for the Earth and invest in peace...” — all of which will work toward the improvement of maternal health, this summit’s priority.

It's great that they would want to pray for the world leaders. I hope they will also pray for the protestors, and for poor working stiffs like me who are simply trying to earn a buck or two for their families.

What about the budget for security?  Could they pray for that?
