After a quick reading of the first section there are some very interesting and significant changes to the church proposed through the changes to the manual in Plenary 2 - Manual Changes (Proposal 9-10). I lost count of the number of remits they required in the proposals that are covered by the omnibus motion...seems we condemn the federal Conservatives on the one hand; and use their tactics with the other.

I believe a commissioner can request that any proposal be moved from the omnibus motion and assigned to plenary or a commission.

Starring Ellen Page as an idealistic young delegate determined to make her mark and Eric Peterson as the curmudgeonly minister mentoring her even as he makes his bid to become Moderator. Co-starring Cynthia Dale as the outgoing Moderator and Ryan Gosling as a hard-driving activist pushing his agenda in any way possible!
Written and directed by David Cronenberg.

Laughing---- great, and where does the cronenberg violence come in, at the great debate? Of course, being at one gc there are backroom fights, where knives are drawn. Loved this and so would grandad.

LOL. I grabbed Cronenberg because he was the only current Canadian director who came to mind and has been a favorite of mine since his tax shelter B-movie days. To be fair to Cronenberg, he's done some (not many) straight dramas including his last movie, which dealt with the relationship between Freud and Jung. His version of Stephen King's The Dead Zone was quite restrained and dramatic in tone as well. That said, in retrospect I probably should have gone with Jason Reitman or, if you want play up the hilarity of General Council, his father Ivan. Of course, Cronenberg's son is now in the family biz but I'm hearing his first feature suggests he's very much a chip off the old block.

You could always ask Norman Jewison to reprise "Jesus Christ Superstar" (United Church version where Jesus is (maybe) raised from the dead, Judas is discovered to have an abused childhood resulting in his treachery and Mary Magdalene still can't figure out how to love Jesus)

I've started slowly by looking at the letters and info. Today I was reading about the moderator candidates (or whatever they're called)......just dipping my toes in the water right now. Like Jim though, I'm aware of how much work I need to do!
When do we get to know which commission we are in? Or do they wait until registration so we will read it all first.....?
