I don't know why Luke 9 appears as an alternate gospel reading. It was the gospel reading just two weeks before, on Transfiguration Sunday (14th Feb).

A solemn covenant between God and an aging, childless, questioning wanderer who had left his comfortable home because (he thought) God called him.
... a promise of a multitude of descendants and a land where they can live!
Surprisingly enough, the wanderer believed ...
and God "reckoned it to him as righteousness".
How much those words meant to New Testament writers! (Especially in Galatians, but also in James.)
And no mention of the promise in Genesis 12:3 that "... in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed".

I just checked the readings and one phrase jumped out at me from the Psalm. He will set you high upon a rock.
I remember back when the movie The Lion King came out. In one scene the cub is in a ravine and a herd of elk are stampeding towards him. His father rushes in, grabs him and sets him up on a rock just as the herd rushes by. There he is, safe, above the termoil. This line in the Psalm reminds me of that. Sometimes when all around us the world seems to be going crazy we can look up and find safety and reassurance. When the world beats us down we can find safety upon the rock.
