I saw this posted somewhere and I was wondering what in the United Church is the difference between Native Ministry and Ministry. Does one have to take different theology classes? I would be interested to know. How many Native Ministries are there. Are they a part of All Circle Conference.

As I used it, it means ministry has a First Nation aspect to it. For myself, it has meant education about native spirituality from the local lodge and elders. I am not sure how many pastoral charges have that NM designation.

I applaud this approach.

TY witch... one of the elders is a retired minister with a father and grandfather who were chiefs and a son at the Midewiwin lodge.

Well said SG. Most of the churches engaged in ministry with First Nations that are the ANCC are in Northern Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta. And even in these provinces, there are Native Ministries that are not part of ANCC. For example there are only 4 congregations in Alberta in ANCC.

My charge is not in All Native Circle Conference. So, we have a Gathering of the Ontario/Quebec Aboriginal Pastoral Charges/Outreaches and appoint representation to the Aboriginal Ministries Circle.
