It is with a deep sense of personal sadness and loss that I share the news of the death of the immediate past president of Toronto Conference, the Rev. Dr. Carol Gierak, on Friday, April 1, 2011. Carol was serving Asbury and West United Church in Toronto, having completed a two year term as president of Toronto Conference.

Carol served a variety of positions in the church over the years, including pastoral charges and conference staff positions in Saskatchewan Conference, responsiblity for Pastoral Relations at the National Office, and minister of several pastoral charges in Toronto Conference.

Carol's deep sense God's purpose strengthened all of us in the recent restructuring process of Toronto Conference. Indeed, she was one of the architects of that new structure.

I worked with Carol in a variety of positions. She was known for her senstivity, deep caring for her colleagues and her wisdom. I remember a difficult time in my ministery when she reached out specifically to me and to my family to offer pastoral care.

The family will receive their friends at the Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street S. (Hwy. 50), Bolton (905-857-2213) Thursday afternoon 2-4 and evening 7-9 o’clock. Funeral service will be held in Asbury West United Church, 3180 Bathurst Street, Toronto (2 blocks north of Lawrence Ave.) on Friday, April 8 at one o’clock

I give thanks for her life and know that she is at rest and peace in the arms of our loving God.
