How many posters here do you think are in the target group that was originally stated. I forget - 18 - 30?
The majority here seem older than that. What are your thoughts?

If I remember correctly, the original target group was 30 - 45 year olds.
Either way, it counts me out :)

I'm not in the target group either . . . does wishing you still were that age count?

Does it count if I look like I'm 45? No? Then count me out as well. My impression is that very few here are under 30, and most are over 45, some significantly, at least the ones who do the majority of the posting. It would be hard to know about the lurkers I think.

I am in the 30-45 age category, and I can think of at least a few others who would fit into that age category too, but I'll let them name themselves.

I'm still not in the target age group, but I'm getting close!

It reminds me though, I frequently get surveys where the age categories are something like:
Under 13
14-16
16-18
18-21
21-24
25+
Yes, 25 and above is one age group!

I was in the target age when I joined .
In hind sight I would have defined different target groups. Actually I believ that the target should be evryone, but if one is choosing targets as a way of deciding how to spend advertising dollars, in order to get the biggest bang for your dollar, and as a result I would have geared the ad campaign differently to target these different groups. Most of which we can find among WC members now.

Hey CrazyHeart. We do not seem to be making the rednecks feel at home around here.
Apart from that we seem to be pretty much all inclusive.

Alex- that is a really good point you make.
I'm in the target group and I think there was a good point to be made by choosing it, but your list seems to impact lives more than age or children. How we spend our weekends and why, what work life is like, what our community relationships are like, how we perceive the world - those ideas are impacted by many things besides age. Some of the most progressive, change-eager people I've known are 90 because they have a finger on how the world has changed.

The target group for the WonderCafe advertising campaign was 30-45 year olds, but specifically toward those identified with "attributes" that were also associated with the United Church. This is based on the "values" research done with Environics. Most of the groups Alex lists would have been included, with the exception of #2 I guess.

I'm older than the target group - was from the beginning. At first I considered myself something of a guest; something like being at an adult son's or daughter's birthday gathering but not really part of the group of friends, not quite understanding the jokes and inuendo but helping with the serving and sometimes having a quiet chat with one or two of the quiet ones, or an exchange with someone else.
I did find that the group was younger when I joined. There were even a few children - teens seem to come and go. Some, like Omni, stayed and contributed for a year or more, but then moved on. And a few drop back in when their busy lives give them time, or something happening in their lives give them cause to check us out again.
It is the nature of groups to grow older. There is a group of us who were here from the beginning. Many were in the upper-end of the target group when they joined, but have moved up and out of it.
As Alex's post shows, part of it is having time to spare. An old retiree like me has more time than a young parent with a job and family taking up her time.
I also think that when we stopped advertising we lost the opportunity to attract new people in the target group. Too bad we don't receive another large gift or bequest ear-marked 'for advertising and promoting the WonderCafe'.

Bad luck, Aaron!
I'm way outside your target group......
Let's see, I'm retired, attend another church other than the UCC, I'm not Canadian, I didn't even know what a "potluck" dinner was before I joined Wondercafe, I live in a country that was at one time a penal colony, I'm an Aussie through and through..........
I definately don't qualify as a geek - Admin Sharon had to write and explain to me that the reason "flag as offensive" didn't show up on my own posts was that "I'm not likely to be offended by my own posts, am I?"
Despite the above, I feel that the spirit lured me here, as it has been a source of rich blessings.....................

That is a cute anecdote.
You don't tell us your answer though.
Are you likely to be offended by your own posts?
Grace anc peace ot you.

No, Rev John - I'm not offended by my own posts, but I rather suspect that my risque sense of humour is seen as offensive to some...............

I don't know. That word "target" worries me a little, though. Practice your ducking, bobbing, and weaving just to be safe.
I was just inside the target range when I joined and I'm now a couple years out of it.
