Hi everyone...
Does anyone know of any professional or elite(ish) athletes who are part of a United Church community? Can be either past or present.
I'm thinking of doing a youth workshop/event and sharing some stories of faithful United Church folks who participate in the sports world.
Surely there's some NHL or CFL or Olympic (or other) connections in this big church of ours. Any help you can offer is great.
Peace.

There's an Olympic rower who is a member of Glebe-St. James United in Ottawa.

When I was a kid, the Church Athletic League was the biggest sports league in Kingston, ON for amatures (hockey & ringette, primarily).

Keith Pelly is a member of our church ( past president of Argos) is probably a good try. He is currently at CTV and did the olympic coverage so woudl have lots of athlete stories.
We have had Pinball Clemens come, not sure if he is UCC though.
We have a woman at our church who swam for Canada but I don't think she speaks.

Actually, one of my nephews is on the Canadian national kayaking team, and is headed toward the 2016 Olympic games in Rio. Whoop! Whoop! Whoop! He and his family attend a United Church just west of Toronto. Indeed, he's being "confirmed" in just a few weeks.

An NHL hockey player had his children baptised in our church;however, .....he doesn't attend, as he doesn't live in our area...
*** it was one of those..."wow..that's...nah.it can't be..yeah..it is"..and then, ok,, we have to treat him like any other parent having a baby baptized...moments
**** note 2...i had no idea who he was.lol
