Very Rev George Tuttle

I thought I would post this obituary here. Does anyone have fond memories of the man? I didn't know him personally, but had met him once or twice through presbytery.

TUTTLE, The Very Reverend Dr. George BA, BD, ThD, DD, LLD

October 4, 1915 -May 26, 2012

Passed away peacefully in Victoria BC. Predeceased by his loving wife Helen (Mitchell), brothers Morley and Aubrey, and sisters Julia and Ruth. George was a professor at Union College, UBC, Principal of St. Stephen's College, Edmonton and former Moderator of the United Church of Canada. I remember the name from his stint as moderator but that's about it. I suspect that Grandad would have known him. 97 years is a good, long life and from his obit it sounds like he used those years well.

There are some interesting reflections on the moderator's  blog including her own.

OK I did check with my friend-who is a much better historian than me-and Yes George and his wife were active folks in our Garneau United Congregation when he was President of St. Steve's. (Garneau Congregation was actually formed after a Sunday School was started by St. Steve's years before-and our of that grew a  church).

George was not a member of Garneau as being a minister his membership would be with Presbytery. I expect his wife was a member.

Our paths didn't cross much as aI was busy being a university student and with Young Adults.

Met him at General council and at a few church meetings over the years.  a kind and thoughtful presence.  Dare we say, one of the 'saints' of the church.

peace brother
