It is time for another vote. A few more of these and people will think that we are Quebecois seeking sovereignty.
After much discussion, we have come up with final drafts for the Mission Statement and Who Are We? for Wondercafe2. Special thanks to Arminius, who provided the final wording for the former by cutting some redundancy from our draft, and to lastpointe for her commentary on the Who Are We? that provided much of the basis for the changes to it. I found that her ideas actually addressed some of the items that others were bringing forward as well. All of the contributions and discussion from the community have been invaluable in this part of the process.
I have set up a new survey on Survey Monkey. It is a two page ballot, with the Mission Statement on page 1 and the Who Are We? on page 2. There are no choice heres, simply a Yes/No question asking you to approve the statements as drafted. Deadline for casting your vote is noon on Thursday, April 7.
The final drafts will be posted to the thread by me shortly and also appear in full as part of the text of the questions on Survey Monkey.
The URL for the survey is: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/wc2missionsurvey
Let the voting begin!

Mission Statement:
WonderCafe2 is a home for open-minded discussion and exploration of spiritual topics, moral issues and life's big questions. It is designed to reflect key qualities and values of the original site Wondercafe (www.wondercafe.ca).

Who Are We?
WonderCafe2 is an independent community that formed out of the active participants of the United Church of Canada’s Wondercafe forum (www.wondercafe.ca).
Wondercafe was a daring effort by The United Church of Canada to reach out to Canadians who may not attend church and give them a way of discussing faith issues in new and exciting ways. WonderCafe wasn't selling the denomination. It was creating a new forum for Canadians to talk about spirituality and faith. Active participants came from a variety of backgrounds and faith communities beyond the United Church. There was an international component as participants joined in from Australia and the United States.
While many of the Wondercafe2 community come from “organized religion,” it’s not our intention to “recruit” you. We want to build a relationship with you on your terms and there is no pressure to walk through any organization’s doors. We are offering you a place to explore your faith, God, and life issues.
This place should be relevant to you, a place to call your own. It is a place where you can freely express yourself and explore the ideas that excite you and the concerns that weigh upon you. You will find that it also reflects key qualities and values including open-mindedness, respect, and freedom of expression.
Through our online community, we welcome anyone to join us at the table.

My big oops. I meant it to end this Thursday but somehow got it in my head as the 17th (ie. Thursday next week) and then lost the "1". Apparently, my father isn't the only member of the family with dementia.
If Aaron is reading and can edit the OP, please fix.

Another thought is there anyway on this site to link every member that has ever posted or visited to this site and send out an invitiation to join us on the new site?

I haven't. You mean post links to here in Global Issues, Popular Culture, etc.? Good thought, waterfall.

Actually I was wondering more if there was a way to link everyone from the membership roster to send out an invitation to the new site. One swoop.

Nice idea. We'd likely need the UCCan's help. Pinga is our liason to them so I'll see if it's something that can be done. We need to be careful around privacy and spam laws.

I also think you should post the voting in the R and F sections so people like unsafe, airclean, etc.... will see. Some just hang out in only one area.

This is a great initiative and I understand the need to show that WC2 is evolving from WC. Still, I think it deserves its own identity. "Ponder Cafe" may be too passive, but I think you can see where I'm headed.

Hi, Bill. Thanks for joining in. We are actually past the stage of discussing the name. That discussion happened a couple weeks ago and Wondercafe2 passed overwhelmingly (there are threads on this in Social). The domain is already registered. We are now working on the next level, of deciding on a mission statement and other basic statements about the site while our technical team looks at the software side of things. Hope to have more contributions from you as we move forward with this.

I'm partial to "LaunderCafe", where members admit to shameful things from their past and air their dirty laundry.
And yep, we're on it over in the technical department. We have the server, a case of beer, and a screwdriver. We've boldly decided on going with forum software that works. Once we get power hooked up to this shack...er...datacentre, we're golden.
Sorry...I'm hijacking. In my defense, it was fun.
I voted. But I already posted that. No, I did not vote twice. Not even in a drunken stupor.

Hi chansen,
No, I did not vote twice.
Voting twice is a bad thing?
I thought it was just making my vote more emphatic?
Like when Jesus said, "Truly, truly . . . ." when only one "truly" is really necessary.
Or like ALL CAPS means I'm yelling and doesn't require an exclamation mark.
Hmmmmm.
Learn something new everyday.
Grace and peace to you.
