Got this month's Observer. There is an advertisement for Wondercafe in it. Why when it is shutting shortly?
I wonder how much advertising cost? and if this money could have been directed to WC2 or have prevented the closure in the first place?
Feeling cynical

It likely wouldn't have been enough money to save the site, even if there had been a willingness to put the money into the site. It does, however, seem somewhat pointless and wasteful to advertise the site and invite people to it, only to tell them when they arrive that it's only around for a couple more months.

There could be a lot of reasons:
1. still wanted to encourage people to investigate the cafe and UCC until the cafe closed.
2. hoped that the new site would be up and running and new people could continue with it.
3. really wanted to help people who are "seeking new life" for the remainder of the life of the cafe.
But my guess . . .
somebody goofed - and didn't pull the ad .

My guess - the Observer was still under contract to print the ad.

My guess, too. The UCCan put it in as a recurring ad under a contract and the contract hasn't been terminated yet.

That's what we want, though Pinga would have to comment on whether it is certain as of yet. She's handling the negotiations with the UCCan. But, yes, if that happens then the ad is certainly still semi-relevant.

Sounds a bit like our current government. They spent our tax money advertising a job training plan that hadn't been finalsised yet. People could hear about all the help they could get - except there wasn't any!

We are hoping for the redirect. Now that we have done the mission and "Who we are", a formal "ask" has been requested for a few items.
Like any organization that "ask" will have to go through appropriate channels. I am hopeful, though, that it will be looked upon favourably.

in case you were wondering where i got that from,
i was basing that on danielB.B.'s thread http://www.wondercafe.ca/discussion/church-life/closing-wondercafe-and-o... Specifically "We could also redirect the www.wondercafe URL to the address of a new discussion forum."
