Very well said, IMO.  Some very helpful thoughts - not even just for kids.

I wonder about other religious groups, who might view God as more punative & vengeful - perhaps as having sent the floods in response to some wrongdoing.  I wonder how those children would be counselled, comforted.  Makes me very glad, again, to be United Church.

I thought this was very good also.

Another thought came to my mind . . . I have been told by many people that sometimes children can find a way to blame themselves for something bad that has happened - they can find a way to make it "their fault".  As adults we might not be able to understand their thinking - how could they possibly have had any part in this?  But sometimes, somehow, they do.  So I would add this as something to watch for.

This often happens when there is illness or death in a family.  Haven't heard of a child blaming themself for a flood but it could  happen.   I DID hear a story about a child in the UK who was rude to his mother - and then the IRA bomb went off.  In his mind it was obvious that he caused it!
