Countries are invading each other less often. Have we learned something or is this temporary.

The last time a country invaded another country was the US invasion of IRaq. China which is the up and coming empire has not invaded a country since 1950. (Tibet)
Have our national leaders learned that the cost of war is always greater than it's perceived worth? it also seems that counties are reducing the size of their military and war machines. Have we started down the path, where invasions of other countries will be unthinkable. Will even the USA embrace peace, because all other countries have rejected war as a tool.
Sure there is a civil war in Afghanistan, skirmishes still occur in the middle east, and terrorists acts still occur, but is this not the most peaceful time on earth since the development of guns and other modern weapons?
Are we in the dawn of a new age of peace, which will allow us to deal with problems like poverty, inequity, etc, instead of being diverted by war and war preparations?
Or is this time just the lull before the storm?

Good question, Alex. Many of the wars of the past were coverups for a war by the powerful on the weak within their own countries as well as internationally. That war continues, and its outcome in the short term is still very uncertain. Hunger, disease, refugees and homelessness demonstrate absence of peace, along with racial, religious, gender, sexual orientation, and ethnic hatreds that continue to poison our relationships.
