Iranians Feel Under Attack. U.S. Says It's Paranoia

Things seem a little slow so I thought maybe some of you might be interested in this story.

It seems that the Iranians are suffering from delusions ... apparently they think the U.S. is out to get them.  How deluded can you be?!  The U.S. wouldn't act like that!  Excerpts are as follows:

The U.S. intelligence community is worried that mysterious assassinations and bombings aimed at Iran’s nuclear program may be spurring the Iranian leadership to pursue attacks inside the United States, according to current and former U.S. officials. ...

“The Iranians feel—and they have said this already—that they are under attack via economic pressure and things blowing up in their country,” says Juan Zarate, a former deputy national security for counterterrorism who served under President Bush. “The Iranians seem to be responding by trying to attack the United States and its allies abroad.” ...

... There have also been a string of industrial explosions at facilities associated with Iran’s weapons programs, such as a Nov. 12 blast at a missile-testing facility outside of Tehran that killed Maj. Gen. Hassan Moqqadam, the head of the country’s missile program.

“There’s been great deal of speculation about events in Iran surrounding its nuclear program,” says a U.S. official who would only speak on background. “Iranian paranoia about these events could lead them to lash out. I’m not saying it will happen, but it’s an option people have to consider.”

The US is allowed to attack countries. It's part of God's great plan.

I have to ask how serious is it really that Iran is angry at the U.S. and is "on the verge" of being able to construct a nuclear bomb when the U.S. has 10,000 of them already to go.

Iran is not a threat.  This is part of an ongoing effort to sell "military spending" to the American public.  By all that I read Mr. Harper is either participating in this charade or has actually been taken in by it.

That great US diplomat Henry Kissinger once said Even a paranoid can have enemies.

It never ceases to amaze me that governments, like our own, think they can engage in rhetoric against another and then claim surprise when the target responds in kind.

The discussions were heating up on CNN tonight and made me anxious to watch the commentators in their panic mode...the fear was being laid on thick. Nothing about it on CBC...they were focused on other world events...too many to cram into an hour I guess. I don't know what to believe anymore--the world is so mixed up and the media sensationalism so often makes it worse. I have been trying not to watch for awhile now because the TV news-o-tain-ment does so much fear mongering, and less and less real reporting--which I believe only creates more problems. I mostly only read the news from a couple of sites now...because I can regulate the content I take in somewhat better, and I don't have to listen and watch all the "urgent" sound and visual effects and often frantic sounding reporters..but my partner stlll watches it sometimes.

Smiles at RevJohn.

Speaking of paranoia, I just read about the parallels between this current crop of news and the similar drum beats in 2000 ... the connection,  US presidential election years.

Oh my, is that my paranoid or conspiracy slip showing ;-)

Given the threats and rhetoric and patterns of recent history, I'd say the Iranians would have to be in some kind of totally off-the-planet denial to not be very very anxious about Israeli and American intentions: two nuclear-armed bully-boy superpowers with a history of extreme violence singling you out and pushing you into a dark alley? Me worry? You have to be kidding…

The Iranians could attack the U.S., Whimsey? In their dreams. The U.S. said the same thing about Saddam Hussein.

Here's an idea. If leaders must insist on diputes being solved with violence...they should step into a boxing ring and leave us out of it!...as it is now, they leave us out of the decisions anyway, yet, put citizens in the middle of the battles. Democracy? At the voting booth maybe...after that it's anyone's guess as to what's going on.
