Sending money home?

I was speaking with my neighbour when she mentioned a new store opening at the mall.

"Don't shop there,"  she told me.   "It's not connected with the other store (another francise) in the other mall.   Their from India, Moslems!   They send all their money back to India."

Huh?    "I thought most people in India were Hindus."

"Well, Islam.   And they send their money back home.  We don't want to support them."

Well, she is my friend and I've learned the futility of arguing with her.   Any non-Christian is a heathen to her - Islam, Hindu, Buddhist, what does it matter?

Even so, what does it matter if they send money back home?   Presumably they are paying their Canadian taxes, and spending money in Canada to maintain themselves.   Isn't what they do with their surplus their own business?   If I went to a foreign country - say to work on an oil rig in the Caribean - wouldn't I send money home?   And what about the profits made by North American luxury hotels on beautiful Caribean islands?  Doesn't that money come 'back home'?

Or maybe a certain percentage of money earned in a country have to be spent or invested in that country to fuel the local economy?

Money spent to live in the country accomplishes that.  ANd I have to ask how this fact is "known"?  Or is it an (racist btw) assumption?

Gord - I would consider it questionable at best.

Unless that money is being sent back home to fund a terrorist organization, I see no problem shopping at that store. I wonder if your neighbour shops at Walmart, eats at McDonalds or buys items made outside of Canada?

Not to worry seeler, I'll do my best to even things up when I spend my Aussie earned money in Canada in June.

Thanks Pilgrim.

I'm not nearly so worried about the money as I am about my neighbour's attitude. and wondering how wide spread it is.
