What do you think of Obama's getting the Nobel Peace Prize?

When I saw the web message that Obama got the Peace prize, I was pleased. To me, It was awarded because of what he stands for, not what he has done. He has visited African countries, giving them hope in their own leadership. He has extended the 'olive branch' to Iran. His mantra of reconciliation, and inclusiveness for all Americans, is in marked contrast to that of his predecessor. (On TV, I had watched G.W.Bush gloat: "People say I should reach out to other Americans. What the hell for?")
To me, it is Obama's inclusiveness which has begun to warm relations with the rest of the world. And, is this not a good thing?
Hopefully, he will build on this approval, and roll it into something greater.

I would have to disagree. He hasn't accomplished much, although the "olive branch" of discourse with Iran is a good thing. I don't know. I think the peace prize should be judged by success of actions, not good intentions.
If it's good intentions I should get it, I mean i think that everyone should get along, and I keep telling people that, I don't discriminate and I try my best at being understanding.

I have nothing against Obama although it should have gone to somebody with more tangible accomplishments in the furthering of international peace and humanitarian work.
The USA military are still in Afghanistan and Iraq and Gitmo still has prisoners. It's true that Obama didn't cause the problems and he is stuck with them but I perceive a conflict between this situation and a prize for peace.

It is ridiculous to give an award to someone for what they might accomplish.
He has lots of promise but at this point is not doing much other than being a charismatic president to Europeans.

Oh yeah, he is held in high regard alright, he is just carrying on what the liberals & the conservatives were doing with globalization.
That will not change, big banks & multinational corperations are initiating this, the flows of economies will depend on it or else this momentom we are on is going to catch up & expose the real troubles ahead.
The rogue economies will collaps unless they conform to this new globalization, those who hesitate or resisit will face economic ramifications.
The initiative is quite plain for all to see, I find it amusing that people are in such denial of what "lies" ahead, literally.
