I've read it. It is a fictional story about Jesus' childhood friend Biff (the sound his head made when hit with something). Biff keeps Jesus safe and alive by doing most of the dirty work. Jesus can't lie, cheat, steal, etc, but Biff does. This is a very funny and kind of crazy story, but it never really goes against the gospels, it just takes great liberties with the wholes in four gospel stories. Most of the adventure happens when Jesus travels the world as a young man as he finds and learns wisdom from the Three Wisemen. I laughed out loud with every page. Christopher Moore is the author.

Thanks Kris ! I c/p the links. Not that I'm stingy or looking for freebies......tongue in cheek - but I'm always looking for excerpts on the net. You'd be surprised! If I dig long and hard enough through google I can find whole books or parts of books fully posted on the net. I have so many UC links to read....I'll have to hire a secretary. This book sounds kewl. A pagan or wiccan once posted a book she had written about Jesus on beliefnet.com. It was fiction. Yet, it was the most beautiful spiritual story I've read in a long time. I can't find it. It was posted on a thread in beliefnet.com. I'll sure have a go at the one you're promoting.

One of my very favourite books! I read it at the end of every term to get out of school thinking and to unwind! But I find it colours my thinking in church and makes me laugh at inappropriate times :) I can't listen to the Beatitudes now without laughing!

Since seeing Monty Python's movie, "The Life of Brian", I have the same reaction every time I hear reference to the scripture verse that contains "Consider the lilies..." I laugh everytime.

I must check out this book.

I LOVE this book! I read it recently and I could not help but laugh throughout the enitre read! My favorite part thought had to be in the author's discussion of the book at the end where he says is this book causes you to doubt your faith you may need to pray a little harder. It sounds kind of mean but it defiantly made sense to me. I have been critizced by some for reading faith challenging books because they are worried that it will waver my faith, I believe that it strenghtens it. I think the author's statement sums it up for me.

Oh and one of my other favorite parts is when Biff protects the shepard from abominations and fails...I use the word abominations so much more now because it is a really cool word...

I felt I really sympathised with Josh (Jesus) as well as Biff throughout the entire book and it really made me think...

I am sure there is more to talk about on the subject of this novel..

I too loved this book. My best friend is a youth minister and she recommended it to me. I love a good satire and Jesus "inventing" coffee made me laugh so hard!

I've thought of doing a book study on it in my church, but I'm not sure folks are ready for it.

I have! My friend lent it to me and I passed it along to other people until it fell apart. It was hilarious and thought-provoking. And yes, it did remind me of "Life of Brian", a favourite movie.
