I am concerned that I am addicted to coffee. I prefer tim hortons but I am an equal opportunity coffee drinker. I drink McDonalds and starbucks as well
In fact I am craving coffee right now as I write this post I am planning my next trip to timmys.
So should I become a health buff and quit cold turkey or should I say this is my vice. I don't drink (regularly) don't smoke so I can do the coffee.

I think almost everyone has a habit (or non-habit) that isn't the healthiest. Too much of a particular food, too much alcohol or caffiene, too little exercise, too little sleep, too much stress, etc etc etc!
If you wanted to be healthier and cut back then do so. If it's not causing you any major problems and you don't desire to cut back then don't. If you choose to cut back drastically (or cut it out completely), going cold turkey might not be the greatest idea. Slowly decreasing the amount, or at least adding a bit of caffeine from another source is what I would do.
Self righteously: Of course *I* don't drink coffee, I only drink healthy tea. :P

I can't drink more than 2 cups in a day or I am bouncing off the walls. I seem to be very sensitive to caffeine.

Serena Maybe you need to give up caffeine and alcohol for a month. Try a 30 day cleanse. My friend at work did one where everything she ate had to be green!

If it works for you, maybe you could ween yourself off (which chemgal mentioned). I have found that cutting it out completely is okay, I can do it, but I get headaches for the first couple of days if I have been drinking it alot. Nowdays I am down to one cup, max 2 per day. There was one point at work when i was drinking several cups a day just to keep up my energy, but then I would have trouble sleeping and it was a vicious cycle. Then, I cut down gradually, and started trying other things like herbal tea instead, or decaf if you really like the taste of coffee. Some decafs are better than others, but it can be fun to try different herbal teas. Theres a big selection of really good ones out there with health benefits. Maybe try talking to someone at the healthfood store if you're interested. There's one called tulsi tea, otherwise known as holy basil tea that is good, it's said to calm the nerves and also help with colds and stuff (but not necessary to only take if you have a cold), and there's one brand I've bought which is infused with fruit. I've found herbal teas helpful. I don't know if it's placebo, but whatever works!

Serena,
Perhaps I did not convey it well--it makes me feel edgy, anxious, fretful. It is not pleasant. I seem to react strongly to anything mood-altering. With alcohol, I can have a couple of drinks at most, after that I become violently ill, and that is most unpleasant, so I don't drink much.
I tried marijuana once, some friends encouraged me, but it made me so I could not remember what I said 5 seconds ago. I went into a sort of panic and they had to calm me down. Never tried it again.
I tried smoking once when I was a teen-ager (decades ago), but the room started spinning. I never tried it again.

my kids have a saying... don't ask mom anything until she has had her coffee.
they simply know that my mood will be better after coffee than before.

Drinking coffee is the sacrifice we make for those around us! Agreed, Sigh.

Well here's some good news about coffee. It improves memory, reaction time, and our concentration.
Some studies suggest it reduces the risk of Parkinson's disease, cardiovascular disease, Type 2 diabetes, and Alzheimers. Reduces the symptoms of asthma, prevents gallstones, and protects against liver disease.
It has as many antioxidants as green tea. It contains fibre, magnesium, and certain B vitamins.
It's recommended not to exceed 4 cups a day and only 2 if pregnant.
Now go and enjoy your coffee Serena, as I will too.

Here I read that coffee drinking might reduce risk of certain type of cancer:
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/12/13/health/research/four-daily-cups-of-cof...
But only if you don't use sugar and cream (the only way I like coffee). Sigh...

Hah that's awesome!!
There are many health benefits to coffee as above mentioned. I feel that as long as you aren't getting tummy aches or bad nerves or staying up all night...then cut back.
I don't smoke or do drugs nor am I a habitual drinker. My anthem for my coffee is:
ALLOW ME ONE VICE!!!
