The end of universal, free helath care?

Has anyone else seen or heard about this attempt by Harper and his party?  He has endangered our waterways, food supplies, wildlfe, Parks, archives, libraries  and the very air we breathe already.  Seems like health care is next to go - if he gets his way.

I'm not surprised, Harper has been selling out Canada for long time. Health care would be just another causality in Canada, like the environment and free speech within the Conservative party.

In Europe, conservative governments have not taken away socialized health care. Not even the "Iron Lady," the recently deceased Maggie Thatcher, dared. In Canada, too, past conservative governments did not touch it. I doubt that Harper would go that far. It would be political suicide.

Our healthcare is not "free".  It has been universal. Many Canadians pay premiums for Healthcare.

That said Harper has no concept of how to run our country.

Cutting the Health Council is still a huge step away from cutting actual care.

Harper cannot end universal, free health care because health care is under provincial jurisdiction. What Harper can do is stop enforcing the Canada Health Act and change funding agreements with the provinces on the basis that the federal government has no constitutional place in health care, so that health care is provided in each province according to that province's ability to provide it. So, probably universal in each province (because universal health care is too much of a "sacred cow" in Canada to actually end) but with widely differing levels of care fro province to province. That's the direction he's going.
