Food Security in Canada

I wavered about putting this in Politics or here.  It easily belongs both places, CBC put it as a political story.

Anyway, teh UN envoy has suggested that food insecurity is a big problem in Canada:

ANd in my opinion such a finding should come as a surprise to no-one.  But I may not be in the majority.

What do you think?

I note that instead of actually discussing the report's findings the Cabinet ministers I have heard quoted today complain about the UN actually daring to comment on Canada in such non-complimentary tones.

If we are to have a Global Human Ethics, that means that everyone has to follow them.  Which includes things like treatment of indiginous and gay marriage.

All of which superscedes any religion or faith or belief as a fundamental Global way of living

Welcome to the future, citizens :3

EDIT:  here is a UN page that might add more meat

We needed someone from the UN to investigate this and tell us what so many have known for the last twenty years or so?  A neighbor with a very good income recently visited in the far north and said that he couldn't afford to live there!  We all know the depth of the poverty in First Nation communities.

In this area increasing numbers of children are fed at school with donated food.  Teachers report that the students cope better when they have food in there tummies.  The use of food banks is rising.  Local grocery stores are having increasing quantities of food being stolen, and not surprisngly, the most stolen item is cheese.  Small package, lots of fatty calories, tasty.

I think every person connected to government, education, health services and social services should be obliged to actually try living on an totally insufficient income, in inadequate housing.  Maybe the measure of  a successful government should include the way they ensure that everyone can have a diet that is adequate to maintain health?  A system of food supply is essential - fighter planes, fancy dinners and pensions for MPs are not.
