Thinking of Alan Jackson and Louie Armstrong songs as I turn 30

So here I am... now having to adjust my profile to say the age group of 30-45. I am turning 30 years old March 11th and songs are rolling in my head about this significant event for me.

Alan Jackson's song: Remember When. Lyrics of note: "Remember when...30 seemed so OLD... now looking back.... it's just a stepping stone..."

Louie Armstrong's song: What a Wonderful World. Lyrics of note: "I see babies cry, I watch them grow. they learn much more, than I'll ever know... and I think to myself, What a Wonderful World"

I love getting old! Chiefly because the older I get, the more experiences I have and the more about this wonderful life I learn. As a 30 year old, I don't feel like I'm in my immature 20s anymore...lol... this birthday, I believe, is a stepping stone for me. A stepping stone into new realities and new opportunities. What a wonderful world we live in!

Anybody out there wanna give me advice on what to expect after I hit 30 years old? lol

Thanks for the wishes and advice... I'm feeling pretty positive right now, and as of late have been making positive choices related to my health... exercise, quit smoking, eat healthier... although I think a popcorn and pop is in the order for my birthday...lol...movie today. I'm celebrating the birthday out of town, with a couple of good friends on Monday, March 15th... going to a mineral spa, eat out a bunch, maybe play football in the park, then back to the city to watch a movie. Yep, life sure doesn't get easier when you're 30...lol...

I started to write my contribution, hit the wrong key, and voila -- gone.

So a condensed version of my original post follows.

I remember 30 as very significant.  It was the first hint of my mortality.  I took my friendships more seriously and became more independent about my tastes in music, clothing and food.  I developed more confidence and humour.

I got the sense I needed to get on with life.  That my time wasn't infinite.

So based on that, my advice would be;

Take your dreams seriously.  If you want an advanced degree, to learn another language or a musical instrument, to train for a physically demanding activity like a cross-country bike trip, buy a house and realize a larger goal -- do it now-- don't put it off.

Save money.  I can't stress that enough.  At this point in your life, retirement is the furthest thing from your mind, but you'll never have more power than time when it comes to this.  Even $25 a month will blossom into a good chunk of change up the road and you won't miss it.  Put away more if you can.  You might think money is "shallow", but believe me, life runs on it.  Every dream, time to think, peace of mind and clear motives all depend on your finances.  Others may argue, but I've found this to be true.  If you have consumer debt  or a student loan (vs a house payment) pay it off.  Freedom is the most valuable thing you can possess.  Don't be a debt slave.

Learn to live with grey areas.  Not everything is black and white.  Sit with ambiguity for awhile.

My birthday wish for you is a life shaped by your own dreams.

Happy Birthday alivetoday!! Not sure what to offer - I recall my 30th birthday with fondness, seems like so long ago - almost 20 years have passed. 30 does seem like a stepping stone, right into 'adulthood' and all the joys that come with it as you've mentioned - experiences, memories, and lots of hopes and dreams for what's to come. Enjoy this special day and wishes for a year filled with adventure, surprise, peace and delight.

Happy birthday!  Best wishes!  Hang on to your sense of gladness!  I experienced 40 that way, and surprisingly, 60!  It felt kind of like an accomplishment, like graduating or something, and like a doorway into new freedoms.  I like it.  The more I learn, the better I feel about myself--both in terms of wisdom, and in terms of regular knowledge, like taking courses etc.  New challenges keep coming, and new delights, and life is good.  Enjoy!

I think it was Louis... "Louis" Armstrong. Not "Louie".

Old is cool. I like it.  Happy birthday!

Yeah, sorry about the typo... "Louis Armstrong" :) Didn't even notice my own spelling of it until you pointed it out.

I like the idea of getting older. I used to be younger than some of my favorite players on the Saskatchewan Roughriders... now my favorite players are younger than me...lol...

I think no matter how old the body gets, the spirit stays the same. Inside I don't feel like I've aged 30 years, although sometimes I feel like an old soul... :)

The key is to stay positive in every situation as much as possible.

 I was just teasing....

Older is easier and the satisfactions run deeper... that's my experience. It's esaier to get interested in things that REALLY interest you rather than things that others think SHOULD interest you. You'll love your 60s (I am!).

Louis Armstrong's "What a wonderful world" was the ringtone for my cell.  I had to change it though to something with a higher pitch because in some environments I couldn't hear it ring when inside my purse.  Getting deaf these days....

Your profile pic is quite humorous actually; Gollum when he was trying to be endearing.   I like it.

My Ringtone is the theme song for that old series, "Dallas".
