Those who pray...

...please pray for my friend, who I'll call Bob. He's in the hospital, having had an 8-hour open-heart surgery. He's in Intensive Care right now. Since going in the hospital he has also had breathing problems, fever, and during a CT-scan the doctors found a benign tumor on his brain. Please pray for him. He's my best friend. Thanks.

Thank you everyone. Bob's such a good guy :)

The doctors said his wife could go home last night (she had been sleeping in the hospital waiting room.) She didn't want to go home to an empty apartment though, so she is staying temporarily with my wife and I.

Thank you to all for your prayers and thoughts. I hope he's well enough soon to be moved out of the ICU. The staff at the hospital he's at have an excellent reputation, so I believe he's in good hands.

Prayers for Bob and all his loved ones.

Sounds like he has a multitude of health issues jae.  What was the purpose of the heart surgery?

Thank you carolla. The purpose of the heart surgery was (as best I understand it) repair a tear in the aorta which had been caused by a blood clot.

As I understand it the surgeon doesn't want the " heavy breathing  movement" of the patient's lungs while doing serious heart  surgery such as Bob's. The patient's body must be kept very still and quiet.  Oxygen is supplied to the patient via a tube down the  throat or in the nose during surgery.

After the surgery it takes time for the patient to begin breathing successfully on his own. I feel confident that Bob's strength (and lungs)  will be restored once he gets over the hump. (I've had 2 fairly recent surgeries myself lasting  some hours. I used a small pretty neat  lung exerciser in hosp.)

ICU is a great place to be with one-on-one care, there's  nothing to fear.

God we pray for the restoration of Bob's heart and lungs. May his energy be restored and renewed.  Give him  strength ,patience, and  faith  to believe   that his body is going to be well again. We ask for courage and positive thinking from his family and friends. May he be bathed in  love, cared for and healed by the spirit of  the living Jesus. We ask and believe in Jesus Name. Amen.  As we have believed so may it be done.

Lets never forget...Jesus light  shines forever .... and light heals... it is sunshine !!!!

Thank you stardust and Rev. Steven.

Here's the latest update - The doctors took Bob off the breathing machine. That's the good news.

The bad news is that Bob had a multiple stroke.

We will continue to pray for Bob and believe that  he will come through. Tomorrow holds great promise. He has been traumatized by the surgery. We'll not give up hope. Lets praise God and believe.......

Difficult times jae - it's been a big ordeal he has experienced.  Many do not even survive a tear in the aorta.  Hopefully the strokes have not been major, and further progress will occur.  Prayers go with Bob and his loved ones in this time of much change.

Thank you everyone for continuing in prayer. Here's some good news... they took out Bob's breathing tube, as he's able to breathe on his own now. Also, his voice is very slowly returning, and he's able to clutch his wife's hand. Please keep praying for this wonderful couple.

Hi Dcn. Jae

Sometimes people lose their voices when they stay too long on a breathing tube. Joy..........!!!!....   it sounds like he's coming around . Slow...?...that's perfectly O.K.

Jesus...lay your hands gently upon Bob.....bring your healing....

My wife and I visited Bob in the hospital today. His wife was also there.

He is doing better, so thank you to everyone who prayed for him.

He is out of ICU, and in a private room now. He is off of most of his tubes and wires. He's eating normal food, and is able to get out of bed with assistance for short trips to the washroom, hospital lobby, and the area just outside the hospital's front doors. His personality has returned - he is back to talking and joking, both things which he has always enjoyed.

He's now waiting for a rehabilitation center to go to so that he can re-learn how to walk and speak better.

Many people have been praying for Bob, and our church feels very thankful for his improved condition.

Someone sent me this little story in an email.

I remember it from TV, 1973, a program called Man Alive with Roy Bonisteel. The boy  in this story is now in his 60's and still playing the piano.
