WonderCafe - Grass Roots

I will post this on all the threads so that we can try and hear from as many as possible.

As you know, WonderCafe.ca  has been an experiment of the United Church of Canada and at General Council in August , the cafe's fate will be in the hands of those who are there to do the work of the church.

I will offer to send on the information that we receive here to the United Church Observer  to be printed in an upcoming edition before August. However, that does not give us a big time frame so please if you feel passionate about Wonder Cafe, I would respectfully ask you to leave testimonies here. This is an invitation to ALL who participate in this forum whether you are United Church menbers or whether you are friends  who are on other spiritual journeys. You might think about some of these comments.

  • Has WonderCafe answered some of your questions
  • Have you received parenting support
  • Have you received answers and support for medical problems
  • Have you received spiritual guidance
  • Have you made friends
  • Have you received education in religious matters
  • When the world has been lost to you, have you found confort and support on this site

The Church is about ministry and the United Church is about Ministry and the Grass Roots - from the bottom up - So, I ask you to be the voice of the church so that we may see this vital ministry continue.

Leave your testimony here

Blessings

CH, how do I share how important this category has been to me.

Some of my most profound learnings and sharings have been here.

People shared the tapestries of their lives.  The stories behind the dark clumpy threads that run through, in & around the bright silken ones.

We talked about miscarriages, and losses.....and the "stupid things" people say to you,......and struggled with faith.   We talked about a loving God and predestination. We struggled.  We virtually walked away. We came back. We walked away.  The topics were important, and our faith is important, and so we continued to dialogue.  Life ain't easy.

Some will remember the evening the wondercafe community responded to a post by someone in the darkness of depression.   The community clung together for support in a virtual space..and wondered why.   Those who knew the "why's" were present.

This led to the "hidden in the shadows" thread, where people opened up their lives, and the challenges of living with depression.    The testimonies were extremely moving, and, I was in awe of those who continued to be with us, against all odds...and shared their wisdom, and in turn, helped each other.  This led to threads on various drug therapies.  The community learned, and those in the know, helped each other..

Then there were those who we walked with  through their  losses or poor health.  When we learned a poster had lost her husband.  When we anxiously awaited the birth of a new child    When miscarriages were shared.  When new life didn't arrive in the way we anticipated.

yet, this hasn't been about the tough stuff.....

It has also been about dialogues on sex, healthy living and healthy self-care.

It has been about tips for dieting, walking, yoga...

It is about workplace stuff, and home stuff.....and church stuff too.  It is about old and young.

Primarily, it is about pastoral care, learning about life and death, and for those of faith, being faithful people  as we learn, share and grow.
