Ribs and mashed potatoes
When I was in England my mom and dad stayed in my residence with me one night and that's the meal I begged mom to cook for me.

french toast - my mom made the best! (we didn't like the bread crusts for sandwiches, so my mom would freeze them and when she made french toast we fought over the crusts :)

sounds very German. my in-laws are Swiss so on special occasions we might have raclette. You can always count on a good selection of cheese in the fridge when I got to my mom in law's. (she makes a darn fine lasagna too!)

Ohh, Trishcuit, Raclette, yummm.
We had Raclette in Switzerland after climbing up the mountain to the places where the cows are in the summer and the farmer took half a wheel of cheese and put it close to the fire, so it started to melt and he cut the fresh melted cheese right onto fresh baked bread for us. Childhood memories.

Lamb's fry and mashed spuds. Rock cakes. Jellied tongue. But, better yet, was all-natural: the raw stuff off the beach — bivalves from the sand, oysters off the rocks. And "kina" in season (sea-egg roe). Those were the days…

Mud pie (my mom's was made chocolate cookie crumb crust with chocolate almond ice cream- sometimes with a touch of amaretto-- and chocolate sauce), and grasshooper pie--same concept but with chocolate chip mint ice cream and a spot of creme de menthesometimes (yes my mom puts a touch of alcohol in some of her recipes sometimes, not enough to get anyone tipsy, just to taste). Haven't had that in so many years. My mom is also onto healthier recipes---but it brings back memories.
Roast beef, gravy and yorkshire pudding. Haven't had that in aaages! Can't remember when. Followed up by mud or grasshopper pie ;) That would be a special occassion meal. Birthday or something. Or apple pie.

Mashed turnips and carrots with butter and a pinch or so of ground pepper and nutmeg (all well mashed together).Goes well with special occassion meals, especially roasts of any kind.

I didn't really like roast beef, but the yorkshire pudding that went with it made it worth it!
My mom also makes the best stuffing and gravy for turkey dinners.
