can you tell me how to get to sesame street?

well, it's been a while since i've posted a thread, but this story caught my attention and i thought i would start some conversation in parenting. katy perry's duet with elmo was pulled from airing on sesame street because what she was wearing was deamed too provocotive.what do you think? what would your reaction have been to this if you were watching sesame street and this came on? to be honest with you, i wouldn't have noticed what she was wearing in "that way", afterall, this is katy perry.my husband, on the other hand, did notice when i showed him the video ;)

Isn't Katy Perry showing too much pretty much true to form for her? I don't think I've seen a picture of her yet that lacked cleavage (well, unless the outfit was of the skin-tight rather than skin-baring variety). I kind of wonder if CTW knew enough about her going in, else they could have politely, subtley guided her to more suitable attire for this occasion. That said, it wouldn't have bothered me if my kid (were he still of Sesame Street age) saw it. It's not like he was into cleavage at that age. Now, give him a couple more years and he'll be watching it just to see KP's cleavage  (yes, he's coming up on teenager).

I don't think it seems risque by normal everyday stuff.  She's colourful and a bit whimsical and her whole look reminds me of a 1940's or 1950's thing, though definitely more bare.  Sure, its trendy and probably would make sense to  have  more of an outfit on, but in the grand scheme of things, its ok.  I wouldn't have hardly noticed.

Doesn't she say, early in her song, that she wants to play 'dress-up'?   Her outfit reminds me of the type of thing my granddaughter would have played 'dress-up' in when she was five.

I don't think this is such a big deal.  Quite honestly the top of her outfit reminds me Wonder Woman.

Other than finding her music pedestrian,simplistic and shallow, the video really isn't a big deal. I mean, I don't see much cleavage there to begin with. And in the one scene there, it looked like Oscar wanted his dress back.

Back in the day Kermit was singing with "Polly Darton" and other singers. Elmo came on the scene after I was done. But I don't think music videos r antisesame street. Sesame street is always in some controversy. What. Is the latest on Bert and Ernie being gay?

With all the fuss that's being made, I honestly was expecting much worse! Her outfit reminded me of the dress up clothes that I see many little girls playing with.

 

Music videos have been around on Sesame Street ever since I can remember.

What she was wearing was too provocative!!!!

 

Elmo is in the buff!!  What Katy wearing was modest by comparison.

 

Who cares if Elmo's carpet matches the drapes?

thanks for the feedback.  my kids have been enjoying the video on youtube.  my 3 year old daughter loves the chipettes version of the song.  revjohn, i can't stop laughing at your comment.

 

it is very wonderwomanesque, isn't it?  and yes, from what i remember, grover used to cut a disco rug john travolta style from time to time didn't he?

 speaking of music videos. what about the all time Sesame Street favorite for many, out of the 70's. The pinball cartoon to 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12? Don't know who wrote that one but it's one heckuva brain cootie.

 What i find different about the video is that this is a current top 20 hit on the radio.  or was recently.

 

SO it seems odd to me that she is doing it for 3 year olds.

 

I would have had her sing a kids song, they don't need to get into pop music at 2 and 3

my number is 26.

I thought her dress hopelessy out of character for the show. You don't normally dress that way to meet children. Sesame Street was not a street for people who could afford to dress so formally. It's from another world.
