I received this link today. It is a National Film Board presentation about the housing situation in Attawaspikat. It is an hour long and totally free until the January 18. I haven't taken the time to watch it yet - but will ASAP.

Thanks for telling me that MikePaterson. Some days I think I should just stay several miles away from my computer! I sent a Wondermail to Aaron and it looks like that link has 'disappeared'. Presumably that is thanks to Aaron as I can't think of any other way it vanished from my original post. I see that I managed a spelling error too - sigh.

Will be watching this evening with my partner. I suspect we will see nothing surprising - we have spent some time on various Reserves near our home.

a bizarre reserve locally is one that is surrounded by MANSIONS and the VERY RICH
that's the one where, as a kid, a friend and i were wandering and looking for a bathroom, we went into a barn...then my friend said a truck was coming so we panicked, feeling like we were trespasing and didn't want to get caught, so my friend found a loose board at the back and crawled through...i did as well and tore my pants a bit...
we were discovered and the people were nice
my favourite reservation is one Lummi in Washington State; they sell really, really cool fireworks
EDIT: lissening to CBC one also gave me a pov of one of the outcomes of giving Metis "Indian" rights is more competition for limited hunting resources

I watched this film last night with my partner. I didn't hear anything truly surprising, but I didn;t really expect to. The relationship between the two partners of the Treaties is badly broken. Hopefully some worthwhile fixes will ensue from the efforts of one side. It is, in my opinion, long past the time for the Government side to step up and do their share.
The film is heartbreakingly honest, and matches the situation on many Reserves across the country.
