A fly-in First Nation reserve is inviting Canadians to come spend the better part of a week; to live with locals, go fishing, visit the school, tour sacred sites and get a taste of how hard — and how rich — life in the remote northern bush can be.
“It’s like an all-inclusive to Cuba, but with a twist,” said Ottawa filmmaker Andrée Cazabon.
“This is a way to build friendships between Canadians of different cultures and also fight racism,” said Cazabon.
Yes, they have huge problems but they also have huge spirit, lots of laughter and love for their land, judging from community members who’ve come to Toronto to visit.”
Engineers Without Borders’ Suzanne Fish will help prepare travellers for the cultural transition before and during the week, because “these youth in KI are dreaming big by inviting Canadians and we want to support them in their drive for social change.”
I'm sure I speak for each and every one of us on the WonderCafe as we hope this adventure will be a smashing success and continue into the future.

Great idea. Right away it tells me why people in remote locations have health problems - can't afford to go to the hospital to see a specialist! It gives some clues to just how remote some places are that the access is by plane. Unfortunately I can't afford to attend, but I am looking forward to more information as the week progresses..

Wouldn't it be great if someone from the WonderCafe was able to go and post back their experiences!!!!
This is exactly the sort of thing I would like to do if I were younger, healthier, richer, and single. In other words free and able to make my own decisions and go where I want. It would be wonderful to experience living with the people of that area, getting to know them. Fishing - I love fishing. Picking berries. Cooking over a wood stove. Visiting sacred sites. Hearing stories. And maybe arranging to have someone from my host family come and visit me.
I would think that the more we got to know each other, the better our understanding would be. Fewer sterotypes.

Seeler and kaythecurler
I agree. I would go in a New York minute if my health was better and if I had more money. As kaythecurler says I too hope we will hear back from those who are able to go. Maybe we'll get input from Facebook in the days ahead.
