CBC has been given some budget cuts.
Rather than rant about the Government let brainstorm some ideas.

I would like to see them get some life into the shows. Listen to any University radio station and hear some great music, great conversation, funny jokes. SO why is CBC radio so dull.
CBC Radio should get a "university " host to do a show.
CBC televsion is missing the boat on music.
they should have a show like Much Music on City TV but it should be Canadian music.
We have so many great bands, great artists and fabulous club groups who could use the exposure. A music show of Canadian music. Different genres could be different shows; Jazz, Rock, country, east coast sound, rap.......
CBC needs to continue running the newsbut there needs to be an overhaul that gives:
more young people
more emotion
both left and right news
more local
A canadian comedy staion/show. The comedians of Canada are second to noen. Lets showcase them regularily.

I think that, prior to these upcoming cuts, CBC Radio One often hits your mark. I think that there is broader appeal to younger people with Q and The Point (which I know some don't like but I personally love and rarely get to hear it). Also, DNTO is good but needs refreshing. The comedy on CBC 1 is fabulous and it would be great if there were more of it and not so many repeats. I wish, rather than reducing services, which will only undermine the whole endeavour, spending and program expansion was being announced -- more shows, more local coverage, more weekend coverage, a better website...
I hear that Radio 3, available on the internet, is a great source for new music but haven't listened myself. Maybe I should start...

I think us adults might like some of CBC programing but my kids would never listen. The announcers are not cool to kids. The music is not new and exiting. They don't show case kids recording in their rooms. I have yet to hear any of the new groups my son is constantly sending me links for.
But I think they could do alot of that on TV which they don't. They have let City TV scoop up the music shows and then they play the current american hits.

Radio 3 has a HUGE youth and young adult following, actually. And young people don't listen to broadcast radio much, so the fact that Radio 3 is only internet and sattelite is not an issue.

To expand - I have no idea about TV. We don't watch TV at all, so I frankly can't comment on how the TV side is doing. I did watch Newsworld once upon a time, and would consider that as an idea worth keeping, but again, no idea how well it is being run these days.
As for radio, the comment I hear most often in any political or social story is "we asked (insert name of Federal cabinet minister) for their comment, but they were not available." It is not the CBC skewing the story, it is the egomaniac PM. And given that I can go weeks without hearing anything about the NDP, or Stephen Lewis, or David Suzuki, or any of the other left wing thinkers in this country, I would vehemently dispute the idea that their coverage is leftish. Liberalish, maybe, but not leftish.
As for music programming, get your son to listen to radio 3. Unless he listens to commercial American bands, then that is the station for him. And the last thing we need is yet another station playing commercial American music, so if that is his thing, there are lots of places he can get it.

I would like to see a show where Christopher Walken is the host. It could be like a show where he bakes cake and pie, then at the end says something really creepy.

CBC needs more shows that appeal to younger people, such as "Q" with Jian Ghomeshi, "Definitley Not the Opera" with Sook-Lin Yee, and "Spark" with Nora Young.

But whatever we do, let's be positive, It's useless. But it has the virtue of not criticizing that nice Mr. Harper.

Okay. Here's my idea: close down the CBC. Government has no due role to play as a broadcaster to the masses.

Return CFL - Football is God to Television in North America. I can't imagine not being able to watch CFL on public t.v. but this is what it has come to.
