Hi Ottawa area folks - I've been following The Journey of Nishiyuu on-line - since the small group of First Nations youth departed the shore of Hudson Bay many long weeks ago to walk to Ottawa. Apparently they're expecting to arrive Monday March 25. So I just wonder if our United Churches are participating in this in any way? Joining the marchers, providing food & water, lodging? Is it even on the radar at your church?
It will be interesting to see how the government responds - or doesn't - to this event - it's certainly been gathering more and more momentum as it goes along.

It's an amazing trek those young people have done; I adnire their courage and determination. I only which the powers that be in Ottawa were worthy of the respect the walk embodies.

redhead - I read your earlier post - much of it I agreed with. I see Harper is scheduled to be in Toronto on Monday, welcoming the Chinese Pandas as they deplane ... politics & priorities ... what is there to say? Sad, the depths to which we have sunk.
mike - they are truly amazing young people! I share your wish about those 'on the hill' in Ottawa. I think there will be some who respond .... we shall see.
So anybody out there from Ottawa & environs? Are churches getting involved?

I cannot imagine anyone having the physicaal strength, let alone courage and conviction to wwalk that distance, or even a tenth of it, along wilderness trails, in the deadd of winter. I think of the freezing coldd, the blizzards, the Arctic wind blowing down across Hudson and James Bays, the darkness that far north in the winter months - some of it north of the treeline. I'm impressed.

Just dropping in for a moment ... but I'm hearing on the radio that the minister of Aboriginal Affairs will meet with the group - so that's at least a start. Must watch the news later tonight - there was apparently a good welcome in Ottawa.

they did seem to get a good welcome, pretty good media coverage and lots o flocal support
is a real shame that today locally news was also about an ugly brawl at a hockey arena in Tweed which involved a group of FN parents, some of the comments posted on youtube under the video are simply shocking
