yes, the report was released friday, and states that republican vice presidential candidate indeed broke ethics laws and 'abused her power' while in office. however, it concluded that there were to be no criminal charges.
what do you think... will this be the final nail in the mccain coffin?

Is it possible she could get dropped from the ticket? That would be crushing for McCain.

LOL waterfall!!!
most have, but they are clever enough to not get called on it by an independent commission!!! even when you try to spin it that way she looks inept.
and makes mccain look bad for choosing her. come on, if this woman is truly the best the republicans have to offer, they need to get their crap together in a big hurry.

Her actions were very petty for a leader. In Canada, it would be poliyical suicide. McCain and Palin wtll lose anyway and they are looking more and more like sore losers.

hey. be fair. her admirers applaud Palin for here defence of traditional values. What value could be more traditional than using one's power to get revenge against personal enemies?

Palin could be a pain in the ass for progressive Americans for a very long time -- whether or not McCain / Palin wins this year. Guarentted she will be running for President in 2012. Unless she's in prison . But even that might not stop her.

pfft. palin would never make it through the republican primaries... the only reason that biden didn't have her for breakfast during the VP debate was because he needed to avoid being seen as 'condescending'. once it is another republican up against her, the kid gloves will come off and we'll get to see her implode.

The republicans tried to seal this report until after the election, claiming that it would bias the results and that it was being used as a partisan distraction... huh? Being found guilty of abusing the power of your office for personal gain is a "distraction" from the issues? And the Republicans knew full well she was under investigation when they chose her for their little game. They gambled on a game plan that was not rooted in what was best for their nation - they gambled on the "win at all costs" strategy and it has paid them back in their own currency. I just pray this hasn't tainted politics for women for years to come.

What amazes me, although I don't know why considering I'm cynical anyway, but, what amazes me is that this investigation was going on before McCain chose Palin. Does that make any logical sense?
There are multiple choices I (McCain) can make and I chose an unknown woman, governor of a small state with little or no political power, who is under going an ethics investigation....
Just further proof Logic is dead, dead and buried so deep it will never appear again in my life time.

Any respect I had for John McCain is fast waning. He is really shuffling now, I notice ( I mean physically). I think the campaign is too much for him and it's WIN. WIN . WIN at any cost.

Wasn't the trooper making death threats against Todd Palin's father?
The trooper was in the midst of a messy divorce with Ms. Palin's sister.
From the Anchorage Daily News ...
As the investigation got under way in 2005, Wooten was in the midst of a bitter divorce from Palin's sister, Molly McCann. The couple was fighting over custody of their two young children. Accusations flew from both sides.
Troopers eventually investigated 13 issues and found four in which Wooten violated policy or broke the law or both:
• Wooten used a Taser on his stepson.
• He illegally shot a moose.
• He drank beer in his patrol car on one occasion.
• He told others his father-in-law would "eat a f'ing lead bullet" if he helped his daughter get an attorney for the divorce.
Beyond the investigation sparked by the family, trooper commanders saw cause to discipline or give written instructions to correct Wooten seven times since he joined the force, according to Grimes' letter to Wooten.
Those incidents included: a reprimand in January 2004 for negligent damage to a state vehicle; a January 2005 instruction after being accused of speeding, unsafe lane changes, following too closely and not using turn signals in his state vehicle; a June 2005 instruction regarding personal cell phone calls; an October 2005 suspension from work after getting a speeding ticket; and a November 2005 memo "to clarify duty hours, tardiness and personal business during duty time."

Personally I would have strung him up for shooting the moose...

I think the reason McCain chose her was because Obama was on a huge roll, and his speech at the convention was nothing short of historical. The media "bump" he would have gotten would have left McCain in the dust. But 12 hours later...enter Sarah Palin...and the press flew to Alaska and Obama's speech was forgotten. If McCain had picked another old man it would have been game-over. At least Palin gave him a fighting chance...and rallied the Republican-conservative "base" that were unsure of McCain due to his more moderate views.
Hopefully this news item will take the heat off Obama and the stupid accusations about his ties to domestic terrorists.

imho, if he had been, then why on earth would palin get involved to such a huge degree in this?? anyone with a bit of political knowledge would have thought 'hey, if i get involved in something like this, it will be a huge conflict of interest, and won't end well.' however, palin decided to get right in there and muck it up. again, it simply shows how ridiculously inept the woman is.

Obama's Rezko Connection

What's your point? Obama and Rezko are not an example of abuse of power. Poor judgment on Obama's part (which he admitted - when he said he regretted ever having anything to do with the guy) but certainly not an abuse of power.

Why do you think Obama's relationships with Rezko, Ayers are of grave concern to many people? Voting for someone like Obama without being educated and informed of his history is very dangerous.
sighsnootles
Posted on: 10/14/2008 07:19
his history?? obama sat on the board of directors for a charity with ayers, THAT is the history there. how on earth does that possibly compare to palin violating ethics laws?? and as far as rezko, he has already stated that he is sorry he had any association with him. palin still maintains that she hasn't done anything wrong, despite A GOVERNMENT REPORT to the contrary.
the reason that 'so many people' have concerns about rezko and ayers is that they are grasping at straws to try and justify voting for mccain. thats pretty much it right there.

Chris Hitchens has a very thoughtful piece in Slate this morning - how the old refrain "stick to the issues" is problematic particularly when the candidates character is very much an issue in a political race. I struggle with that too and for me the character of the candidate has always been and always will be an issue and a big one.
Bill Clinton's conduct with ML was an issue for me. John Edwards affair was an issue for me. And Palin's refusal to deal with this investigation and her recent attacks and dangerous innuendos about Obama's relationship with airs are greatly disturbing to me.
In Hitchen's opinion, Obama is overrated and I tend to agree but so far he has proven himself to be a man of principle and honour. Biden's plagarism bothered me but he owns up to it and calls it a stupid mistake and I have to respect that.

i read that hitchens article yesterday, and its a very good read... especially the part about how obama is overrated. there is the anti-obama sentiment that he is a terrorist and as evil as osama bin laden, and the pro-obama have him as pretty much the next kennedy and practically walking on water.
either way, the hype is unreal. the guy is a HUMAN. no more, no less.

I'm going to add: Palin was for 7 years a member of the Alaskan Independence Party
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/09/02/politics/animal/main4407224.shtml
This is a group that encouraged taking up arms against the American Governement, and she chose to be a member, along with her husband (I think he is still a member) for 7 years!!

The fact that Democrats haven't picked up on this and gone to town with it shows they're either more decent than the Republicans....or just not as desperate for votes. Republicans are throwing the kitchen sink at Obama cuz they're hopelessly losing now. It's a last-ditch strategy.

There are still 3 weeks in the race. I bet its an Ace in the Democrat pockets.
And they are more decent. I hope.
