Avon is considering an offer from Coty to buy them out for $10.7 billion. I never thought of Coty as being a particularly high end product, more for pre-teens and adolescents first buying their own makeup because it was affordable for them. At least that's how it was when I was that age. I wonder what it will do to Avon? Keep the same home based business thing going? Change formulas? Target age group?

I hadn't even heard of Coty before. Looking at their website though, it doesn't appear that they have their own brand? Lots of designer names listed. I'm not sure how expensive they are, as I don't tend to buy cosmetics based on a designer name that gets into everything. Opi isn't cheap though, and is good quality.
I like Avon, although I've never bought their cosmetics. I prefer to see the colours in person. Hopefully, if they take the deal it will just be to sell the Avon products. I suspect that most of the line would be dropped though, and only cosmetics would be sold.

I guess Avon is going the way of the dodo bird.... I remember foul smelling Avon perfumes in cute childish bottles wen I was a kid, and as a teen enjoying the mini sample lipsticks as my cousin was selling Avon.
I know the name Coty, but not very familiar with it. I think of face powder... So far, I buy the lipstick colours I like, regardless of brand, so long as it's reasonable, and it doesn't stink. But I had for ages been drawn to Revlon first, out of teenage habit I guess. Toast of New York being THE colour to have when I was 18. No more!
Love the Avon lady in Edward Scissorhands... chuckle.... ; )

Yeah that was funny. Some great Avon moments there. Applying the goop to his face with a mini-trowel...hhahahahaha!

I didn't realize Coty owned Opi nail polish! I just remember them as low budget make up when I was a teen. Man that was a LOOONNNG time ago. Maybe Avon will drop the cheap fake jewellry and stuff now.

The Coty loose powder came in a nice card round box with pictures of cotton heads on it. It was gold and white, I remember. I used to like that, cause it was like in the cartoons, where the lady poofs her face with a cloud of white. : ) But I do recall some lipsticks too...
Ah, Toast of New York, it was a great shade...
And it seems my friends and I weren't the only ones to whom it was tops. I see other women saying so when I do a quick search!
Myself, I've just bought Maybelline's Mauve Me, and am pretty happy with it so far, though it does leave a bright stain which I'd rather it didn't...
I've done some lipstick research lately as I've been searching for shades (haven't changed my lipstick in several years) and discovered that girls nowadays seem to like fushia best and other super bright colours... weird! And, that they considder Revlon to be a "middle aged women's" brand/ "your mother's brand"!! Shock horror! I had no idea I'd become such a fuddy duddy!

Elanorgold, I think most of the midpriced makeup lines are considered to be for the middle aged. Girls tend to start with the cheap stuff, and then graduate up to the expensive stuff that most people 40+ wouldn't consider spending money on unless they had a lot of disposable income.
I like some Revlon stuff, but with my sensitive skin I stuck to what worked for me, and I'm a MAC girl. I didn't get away from high end stuff completely, but at least it's still at the lower end of the high end stuff! The price of the lip stain I bought from the makeup artist for my wedding was excessive, it was Jane Iredale and I can't imagine paying that price for all of my regular makeup!

I remember Wet n' Wild was the cheep teen brand when I was young. And I remember colour changer lipstick, that looked green in the tube and turned bright pink when you put it on, and it cost a buck or two, and man! did it ever stain! What crappy stuff! And it smelled like candy of cource, placed low down on the shelf in a basket where the youngest browsers would spot it.
I remember feeling quite swish when I got into Revlon. Always bought Cover Girl pressed powder though, cause my mom got me started on it when I was 13 or so. Ick, I remember trying to use foundation the wrong shade to cover my zits at that age, all at Mom's suggestion, and how gross I felt about it all. Gak!
They fight hard to get us started on their brand cause we do stick to them. The response I got back from Marcelle was packed with "your continued partonage" type phrases, when I've only ever bought one lipstick from them. It was a prefab reply of cource.
SO I decided that I needed a paler lipstick to go with my increacing age (38) and tendancy to wear only light or no make up, so after two failed attempts, settled on Almost Nude for my palest (the Fairest Nude looked dreadful!) and the mauve for a practical medium shade.
Funny how I go through bouts of interest in a particular thing. Last year it was finding a brown, blonde or gold mascara, the year before hair colour. Now I have a nice spray of light grey at my cowlick that I quite like and have gotten over the darkening of my hair.

The gold mascara I found:
She's got lots of black on her eyes, I don't do that, nor the wild eyeshadow! You only see the gold in a certain light, but it's fun.

I have been using some Avon perfumes for 40 years. There are a few select fragrances my body can tolerate in small amounts. I would be sad to see the lines discontiued. If so, guess I will have to find something else or shower more often.
I can't wear make-up so won't be bothered if discontinued. Unfortunate for loyal customers over the years, though.

I like Mary Kay too because you get to try the lipstick shade on to see if it works for you.
I also have a small collection of lipsticks that come with those Clinique and Lancome "gift with purchase' sets. They are fairly respectable shades in very good quality.

You might try right clicking on the image and choose "copy link" (if it has one), then click the icon of the pic in the comment box and paste it there.
If your personal pic is in an online album, like Picassa, it will also have a location url.
If it's a pic that you took and saved to your computer, I'm not sure that works.
Hope this helps

I hate Mary Kay! Someone I knew sold the stuff and she gave me a few samples and even when the stuff wasn't open it bothered my allergies. It just reeked so much of the scent they added.
From Avon, I've bought things like purses, kitchen stuff, a summer dress, etc. Maybe I got nail polish once? That's one of the cosmetics that I'm not as picky about.
Elanor, I bought Wet n WIld once as a teen. It was black lipstick for Halloween. The quality was so horrible I never bought any of their stuff ever again!
Have you ever tried any of the new ilp glosses? The newer ones are really nice. I'm not even sure if I own a lipstick, it's mainly all glosses and a few stains.

I never bothered with the wet n wild makeup but they had some wicked cheap nail polishes. as long as you don't care how long it lasts.
the pic is one that I found online but can't find now. grrr.

I'm sorry Gecko, I see there are some nice fragrances then, I'm just remembering from childhood, maybe the ones I smelled were old too. I tend to like 4711 cologne, and essential oil scents like lilac and rose. I made a perfume once decades ago and it still smells pretty! I'm so proud of myself! Using rose petals, gum benzoin and orris root, I forget what else.
Trish, the only way I;ve fond is to upload it to the internet so it had a url, then you can copy and paste, but not straight from the hard drive.
Chemgal, No, I haven't. I tested a nice colour of a funny lipstick that was wide and more faint, and softer, and then figured out it was a tinted lip gloss. I'd never seen those before. I thought that was interesting, but not what I was shopping for.
I had a black lipstick once. I used it to darken other colours. I used to do black nailpolish, and I remember in grade 10, the girls in school critisizing me for it, saying, "hippies didn't paint their nails black" all snotty like. So I said, "Well I'm not a hippy!". I was a goth hippy! : ) lol!
