Who, in your opinion is the greatest band ever, Christian or otherwise.
Now , I don't listen to a lot of "secular music" but I think one of the best bands EVER is a band called Dream Theater (2 members are Christian). They are a progressive metal band with some serious chops. These guys can play. Amazing musicians.
On the Christian side there is a band called Demon Hunter. They are a hard core band so they are not every ones cup o tea. Solid Christians and not ashamed to talk or sing abaout their faith in Christ. Fantastic musicians. If you like really heavy music there is a new band called Becoming the Archetype. Again, a solid Christian band that are not ashamed to sing about and share their faith in Christ. They will rock your face off. Skillet and Pillar are 2 other bands (Christian of course) that top my list.
There is a ton of great music out there. Music is one of God's greatest creations and gifts to us.
For our God is a consuming fire.

Hey RevJohn. You bare more than a slight resemblance to a certain BTO singer. Is there something you would like to share with the rest of us. Are you infact a clone of Randy Bachman?

Hey RevJohn. Please don't take offence. Just taking care of business.

Hi,
You asked,
Are you infact a clone of Randy Bachman?
As a matter of fact, I am not.
I have been blessed with generic looks that remind a lot of people of other people they know.
No offence taken. I get "Hey aren't you so and so?" all the time.
Grace and peace to you.

On the "secular" end of things I would have to say, for me, anything Chris Cornell has been involved with. Whether it was Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, Audioslave or solo work. He has one of the greatest voices ever. He is uber-talented in songwriting. Too bad he seems to have something against God. Something must have happened in his youth.
Christian bands.. I'd have to say two come to mind. I have been impressed with the talent of Audio Adrenaline who over the last two decades have continually changed things up musically with solid uncomprimising lyrics. The other band is out of Australia called Hillsong which is formed by a group of kids from a Church with the same name. If these guys don't pump you up, I think you better check your pulse!

For my part: The Moody Blues are the best ever.
They can sing with meaning to almost any topic. Their "Keys to the Kingdom" album is fantastic.

C/mon: the GREATEST BAND EVER has to be House of Edgar Shotts and Dykehead Pipe Band, and the greatest band in Canada is EITHER the simon Fraser University Pipe Band or the 78th Fraser Hifgglanders (Bill Livingstone) from Whitby, Ontario.
I thought everybody would have known this!

Our Lady Peace never gets old...they just keep getting better and surprise you with every album. Underoath and Emery are two great bands that a lot of young adults are into as well and can speak their faith in radical ways to kids.

I just can't get into Underoath... they are amazingly popular with today's youth, though.
Best bands ever, though?
Modest Mouse
Arcade Fire
The Beatles
Death Cab for Cutie ( and Ben Gibbard's side-project The Postal Service)
and much, MUCH more!

Yeah, I'm gonna have to give it to U2 as well. Did anyone see the cool new U2 by U2 book out? It's got some awesome pictures and a great story of faith behind them too.
Honourable mention to REM.

I'm glad you used the word "Bands".
The obvious to me are The Beatles & U2. The Clash, The Doors and The Velvet Underground all get honourable mention.
Christian: just delving into this "genre" but my favourites are Casting Crowns and Hillsong.
What about best Canadian bands?: Tragically Hip, Blue Rodeo, Sloan, Rush.

Best Canadian band, hands down is Rush. Neil Peart along with Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater and Lester Estelle from Pillar (although not Canadian) are the three best drummers ever. Wicked talent.

I used to hang out with friends in the basement of Jim Kale singing with the "Guess Who". Chad Allen was their lead singer then
Burton Cummings wasn't part of that group yet but he was with the Devrons who played at our High School dances.
I used to cut through Randy Bachman's yard to my wife's house just two blocks away.
Donnie MacDougal who joined later on was also a friend of mine from school.
My Favourite secular are Elvis, Tractors
Christian - Gaithers groups

I think my favourite drummer would be consumming fire!!
Hey CF, maybe you could come up this summer and we'll get playing together.
There's a few of us that play gospel and country. I find so many country songs sing about life and the Lord.
I can almost hear you hitting the highhat with the brushes right now!
Keep on praising the Lord, Brother.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band. Great rockers, and some of the most awesomely poetic lyrics ever.
