Ack! I just read the Observer (which comes to our home) and I was surprised to see some venomous letters, even one that dissed the Squirrel!
It's too bad that people get freaked out over Bobble Head Jesus' and Same Sex Couple Cakes.
Poverty and cancer really piss me off. Homelessness and homophobia. Racism and sexism. The aids pandemic and 2/3rds of the world living in substandard conditions. Britney Spears and Madonna getting more attention than Stephen Lewis and Romeo Dallaire. Lack of funding for youth initiatives and over-consumption of natural resources.
Squirrels and Bobble heads are very low on the list of things that get me mad.
Oh well.
Perhaps my priorities aren't what they should be...
PS I know that the Observer was just printing letters from its faithful readership.

I haven't received the new copy yet (must be a rural western Canada thing) but I'm with you. People need to get a life. You want to get upset about something real than read A Race Against Time or notice the homelessness and hunger in your community. I have to wonder if these are the same people who are complaining that young people aren't in the church. And personally, I love the Squirrel (The SQUIRREL RULES!)

Gee, what a surprise. Some of the old people were offended. Shucks. Darn. Bummer.

I saw it too - ya know, sometimes I need to take a breather after those first few pages, and it was the same this time.
I'd like to know how many letters were actually received for & against it, and I bet there weren't many letters supporting it, cause we're all too busy here on the website!

Another thought - is Wondercafe aimed right? Someone argued that it wasn't because all good people are trying to be good parents and fine upstanding citizens (paraphrased), and aren't interested in stuff like sex & thinking theology & bad jokes
I thought, considering my own interests, and those of a zillion others my age, that that was way off base - The squirrel rocks!

I apparently wrote the only positive one. I figured there would probably be negative and wanted there to be at least one positive. I didn't figure on 10 against 1!

Is negative criticism negative?

Some day revmatt will be old. Shucks. Darn. Bummer.
Wisdom comes with age.

Arguably, I am already old. Sometimes, wisdom comes with age. Sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes, fear of the new comes with age. Sometimes it doesn't. The only thing that age brings reliably is death.

Maybe all those naysayers should ask those of us who are actually USING the site. Seems like there are a lot of us who think this is worthwhile.

I find the letters in the Observer the least appealing or interesting part of the magazine. It's where the Observer tries to portray the vastness of opinion across the denomination, and so I find it's where the extreme voices on any side of an issue get their airtime. I tend to be a moderate on most things (along with a good chunk of UCers) and so I find there's usually nothing for me in the letters section. Like water off a squirrel's back, let it slide EZ. Let it slide.

What will count is how EZ is faring in 6 months, a year or 10 - hang in there!
