For a book, I would suggest "Breakthrough, Meister Eckhart's creation spirituality" by Matthew Fox.
For DVDs (e.g. movies), I prefer fiction that challenges, rather than documentaries. "Shop on Main Street", or "The Seventh Seal" ... but now I've revealed myself as an old fart.

If you are truly questioning and want to open an honest and frank discussion about religion, faith, and so forth, I would recommend _Breaking The Spell_ by Daniel Dennett. It's a call to a brave discussion of religions, what they mean, and whether religion is good for humanity or not. He doesn't reach a whole lot of conclusions on those points, but it's an excellent starting point for discussions.

and yes, Automan is correct,
IF ANYONE HAS QUESTIONS, SEEK THE BIBLE. FIND A GOOD, EASY TO READ BIBLE (NIV OR ASV ARE BEST)
A GOD STUDY BIBLE CAN HELP ANY NEW CHRISTIAN

Some of the replies below would echo my own for sure. And I've been reading - heavily - in this area for going on 7 years now. Still questioning. Here are my favourites for searching/questioning souls and the ones I keep handy at home to refer to as a STARTING POINT (trust me, this list could go on, and on, and on...)
Start with C.S. Lewis - Mere Christianity. As well as a good Bible. Try to get one without study commentary IF you want to be able to think your own thoughts without study notes, they can distract you or interfere with your own thought processes. I actually have a "The Complete Idiots Guide to the Bible" also, which is quite helpful. I have just started one by Wright called Simply Christian which is billed as the next generation CS Lewis Mere Christianity but I can't imagine it being clearer than the Lewis one.
Borg - The Heart of Christianity + Reading the Bible Again for the First Time
Spong - Rescuing the Bible from Fundamentalism + The Sins of Scripture + Liberating the Gospels
Shorto - Gospel Truth
Harpur - Would you Believe + The Pagan Christ
Armstrong - A History of God + The Spiral Staircase
Freke - The Jesus Mysteries
Marion - The Death of the Mythic God
Strobel - The Case for Faith + The Case for Christ
Rubenstein - When Jesus Became God
Pagels - The Gnostic Gospels
Ehrman - Misquoting Jesus + Lost Christianities
Also if you get some of the Power of Myth stuff (Joseph Campbell) that will be very helpful to put some things in perspective.

Sort of a an anti-religious religious book. Well worth reading and entertaining to boot.

Clamc40 - Thanks for the great list of titles. I have been reading Borg's "Reading the Bible Again for the First Time". I have really enjoyed the perspective he brings to the Bible, since I personally find it very difficult to take the Bilbe literally. Figuratively, metaphorically -- maybe. It gives me food for thought and room to understand how I can be a Christian without the need to accept every (at times contradictory) word in the Bible at face value.

I recommend The Red Tent by Anita Diamant.
I know this book has made it around many book groups (ucc and otherwise), but I recommend it for a) it is very well written, b) I always wondered what the women were doing while the men were doing stuff worthy of Biblical record c) I enjoy historical fiction - the well researched ones are really not much different than documentaries.
Along the same line I enjoyed Wisdom's Daughter by India Edghill (King Solomon's daughter who comes to adore the Queen of Sheba because hers is a world where women contribute and participate and even lead).
Issues of leadership, gender roles and hearing God's voice are timeless themes.

Agree with the post above, I just finished the God Delusion by Richard Dawkins, I can see why it has been number one on the best seller list for months.
Also watch the Oscar nominated documentary "Jesus Camp", available now on DVD.

I'm new to the whole forum online thing but I will give it a shot. Because I am a simple kind of woman, i like simple books that leave conclusions up to me, especially when talking to a questioning soul perspective. Two recent books I've read are Lee Stobel's "Case for Christ" and Philip Yancey's "The Jesus I never Knew". Good arguements are made in both.
As far as the dvd's go: you can NEVER go wrong with Ferris Bueller
