Wow. Something you and I can actually agree on, Stephen.

I'm not a huge Elvis fan but when he was on his game, he was easily one of the best singers of his generation. When push comes to shove, I prefer Roy Orbison, but that's not a knock on Elvis but a plug for Roy.

Favorite Elvis songs?

Suspicious Minds (like the FYC cover, too) - I love the song, love Elvis' singing

Love Me Tender - Elvis could croon like no one else when the mood took him

the early rockers like Blue Suede Shoes, Hound Dog, etc. - and let's not forget that he was, first and most, a pioneer of rock n roll.

fine young cannibals did a elvis cover? gotta check that.

his more 'popular' music , such as some you meantoined, i think are some of his less awsome songs....... he has so many though.

i think some lyrics in 'i got a woman' was used by jamie foxx in kanye wests 'golddigger' song.

not sure, i think epe (elvis presley enterprises) might have made a few bucks off that.

You didn't know about their cover of "Suspicious Minds"? I thought it was one of their biggest hits. IMHO, it's one of the rare covers that equals the original while being different enough that someone who heard it first would probably be surprised that it was an Elvis cover.

I have never had any liking for Elvis. He had a good voice but I never heard him sing a worthwhile song. I'm sure there were some but I couldn't really get excited about going looking. He always exemplified what I found most irritating about American "culture"… a kind of dumb, self-infatuated, oily sentimentality. Banal… too bad.

My friend calls me up and asks how do you feel about Elvis?  Well I said, he's been gone a long time and I've moved on. wink   Turns out this coming weekend is the Elvis

Presley Festival in Penticton and so that's where our road trip is heading!  I have always liked the quality/sound of his voice but not all his music and as for his movies?mmmm..not so much!  I would much rather spend an hour listening to his stuff that alot of the crap that's out there now!  And I'm only 47!

In April we had to go to my Grandma's funeral and were in a hotel out of town for two nights. Late in the evening we are all still awake kids included. As we checked out the cable tv listings channel we found an Elvis movie on (don't know the name) followed by Elvis' Blue Hawaii! Nice wholesome show,  funny fashions and hairdoes (to the kids) and some great dance moves.  Our two year old was busting a move in between the beds in his pj's. I now have fond memories of good family fun to associate with the King of Rock.

PS My favorite Elvis song is 'Suspicious Minds'.

Love that song by FYC. Never knew it was originally done by Elvis.

Rich blessings.

LOL...this was the beginning of a good thread. I like SB's ranking and description of all the different elvis's. Kinda makes me feel bad for him that he's gone...I can see, in this thread at least, he was trying to make friends.
