NHL: Western conference

For the past several years, many here in the west have come to the conclusion that there is something wrong in how the NHL conferences are dispersed. Or that there is the inevitable and unsolvable problem of social-geography - it is easier to travel in the east coast because of the lack of distance compared to the western conference (ie. how many teams are between Montreal and Washington, D.C. compared to the huge geographical difference between Vancouver, Edmonton, and Dallas, etc.).

But alas, I'm not here to whine. But doesn't it get boring in the east to see such a spread out conference (currently, first place: 85 pts, last place: 38 pts.); especially when compared to the insanity in the Western Conference (there is a 6 pt. spread between 5th place and 13th!)

Anyway, just had to talk nonsense about something I really don't care about. :D

Brad, I hope you find some hockeyheads out there to share this discussion with. Some folks LOVE to talk hockey.

surely there HAS to be a fellow hockeyhead for this poor fella out there.

Kind of wondering what will happen with the Phoenix Coyotes myself.   I haven't checked for a while.  Are they going to be dissolved or not (Or "contracted" as they call it)?

Just curious because my sister in law's cousin is married to a Coyote. My sis in law and brother got married poolside in Phoenix, saw some hockey games and Nascar. It was truly a Canadian Redneck's dream honeymoon.

I believe Mr. Gretzky's investments are diverse enough that the folding of his team, while it will hurt, will not bury him financially. He is a good lesson for us in that respect. DIVERSIFY.

I am by no means a hockey expert and  have not been following it, except the odd tidbit I pick up along the way.

I don't know alot about how the conferences are spread out but I am a Canucks fan!  They've really turned their season around recently; they're not playing fantastic but luck seems to be on their side for a change.  I'm becoming very quietly optimistic about their chances (not to go all the way, but at least do well in the play offs)
