Would I be naive to hope that this will be the last we'll hear on the matter?
Hopes can be naive can't they?

good lord, are we still yapping about this?? i mean i liked diana as much as the next person, but for heavens sake, lets just look at her life and what she did for the thirty some odd years she was alive, rather than dwelling so much on the the last 5 minutes of her life...

I think she was abducted by aliens and sent back as a frock. And the whole car thing was a cover-up.

Why not...that's what we do with Jesus all the time...so really why should Di be left out.

Still makes me sad. And puzzled.
Why I feel so bad for a family who have everything X10,000,000 that I could ever want.
Why I don't feel that grief for those who die anon. every day in poverty.
I need to be re-grooved.

What is this doing in Parenting exactly?
Hi, huge royal watcher here. (I even admin on a royal message board)
She got into a car with a guy who was drunk, a high funcioning drunk but drunk. She didn't wear a seat belt.
She died.
Bingo bango.
The one who is really pushing these conspirecy theories is Mohammed Fayed. Yes a grieving father but also a man grieving the position he built in his head that he was going to be the future King's step-grandfather. Remember, he was denied British citizenship because he was caught bribing several MPs. He also probably doesn't want to admit that one of his employees was the drunk driver responsible for the accident. . (which would open him up to liability law suits if the Princes wanted to go there)
I will admit that I am in no way or no how a fan of the late princess. She did some great charity work but I don't respect the way she lived her life.
Quibble with this title though. Her name was never "Princess Diana". She was Diana, Princess of Wales. In the British/Canadian royal family in order to have "Princess" before your name you have to be the daughter of the monarch or the granddaughter of the monarch in the male line . The only Princesses in the royal family right now are Princess Anne (daughter of the monarch) Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie (granddaughter Queen Elizabeth in the male line) and Princess Alexandra (Granddaughter of George VI in the male line)

Do you think this is posted in "Parenting"? Because I checked twice since I'm prone to mistakes once and a while and it does appear to be posted under "Popular Culture".

I think in many ways it was an informal title that the people bestowed on her sort of like how people call their minister Reverend Jones or Reverend John when technically it isn't correct.. People generally don't care about things like that and to her admirers she was a princess. To her really devout fans she was a goddess and deifed as such.

It was in parenting when I replied last night. One of the admins must have moved it.
I do understand that its just easier for people to call her "Princess Diana" but one of my greatest peeves is misuse of titles.

According to the admin it did post it under parenting and they moved it to the appropriate place. I meant to post it under Popular Culture.
(Actually I really believe that forum gremlins messed with it and I did post it properly... ;)
Phew - Thought I was losing it there for a moment.

Interesting pet peeve.
I remember correcting a British newsite after they referred to Camilla as "The Duchess of York." I couldn't believe that the British got it wrong.

Titles, titles, titles... inbred, privileged, undereducated, chinless dafties for the most part, with vestigal feudal rights most of their ancestors "earned" by betraying friends or relattives or tenantry, or pimping their daughters, wives and (in the case of the Stuarts) sons to the monarch of the day. Unless they're earned (i.e paid for, viz. Tony Blair's little tete-a-tete with the constabulary yesterday), most titles signify personal weaknesses, foibles and privileges that wouldn't be tolerated in a civilised anthill. If they're paid for, they indicate a propensity for bribery and corruption that may be more astute, in a sad sort of way, but no more admirable.

I think it is time this was put to rest - Diana did a lot of good - she was a beautiful person but she was also very troubled at times
May she rest in peace
