That is indeed sad news. She had her share of problems, but she also had an incredible voice. Apparently Jennifer Hudson will sing a tribute to her at the Grammys tomorrow night.

I still remember the way she was all over Much and other music video channels/shows in the eighties and early nineties. I wasn't a big fan of her style of music, but loved her voice. She was an incredible singer and its too bad her life fell apart the way that it did. She's been trying for a comeback (just finished shooting a movie, in fact) which makes her passing all the more tragic. A few more years and maybe she'd have been back on top again, at least as an actress (I hear her pipes were pretty messed up due to the drug use so a big comeback as a singer was looking dicier).

One of my favorite Whitney Houston performances is one that isn't, perhaps, as well known as her big hits. It is her recording of "I Know Him So Well" from the musical Chess, which she recorded as a duet with her mother, Cissy Houston. like micheal jackson, the witney houston i loved disappeared many years before she passed away.  may she finally rest in peace.

Incredible voice, and a very talented singer.  So unfortunate that some of the great ones lose their lives to drug use - Michael Jackson, Amy Winehouse...
