SPIRITUAL INDIE ROCK

I was just wondering if anyone knows of any good spiritual/christian indie rock/folk music?

I've really been getting into Sufjan Stevens' new album and cant seem to get enough (I really dig the folky instrumentals and how he doesnt shove his Christian values down your throat).

Any suggestions would be more than appreciated! Thanks!

Check out the new CD by rEvolve.

"rEvolve" means to "re-evolve." Evolution in terms of life energy being re-created, evolving out of the old and becoming new. It means to build on and evolve the work of those who came before us, those who have inspired us, educated us and whose "shoulders we stand upon." rEvolve also suggests the word "revolution" which may be taken as the development of a centre of gravity around which to orbit. A focal point where we define, clarify and co-create our life paths.

Chris Giffen, Josh McHan, Gord Oaks and Julian Pattison are bringing new energy to music in the United Church - re-evolving the spirit of the music and presentation. rEvolve enjoys celebrating and re-working some of the "old" tunes as well as contemporary tunes, bringing new life and energy to them. We evolve ourselves and our communities in the process of bridging the space between the previous and the current, the "us and them", as we realize our place standing upon great achievements of previous generations, mentors and compassionate rEvolutionaries.

In addition to the great suggestions I know you are going to get here, I suggest you go to www.pandora.com and set up a site with a few of your indie spiritual bands.
I created one around ben harper, and have been introduced to a lot of new-to-me spiritualbands through it.

I was just about to suggest Sufjan Stevens to you :)

Define "spiritual" better. Are you looking for music relating to God and religion or music with a lot of spirit and passion and what-not? If it's the latter I suggest checking out Bright Eyes - not the greatest songwriter but the intense emotion and heart he puts into his songs more than make up for it.

oh i love sufjan
his christmas album set is the best thing that's happened to christmas since, well, jesus. (i'm going to be pinned as a heretic in no time)
for that heart bursting into a million pieces feeling, i'm a fan of sigur ros, stars, and final fantasy
i think the sunparlour players would be up your alley... macleans described them as like the arcade fire with more banjo, and i'd tend to agree. good stuff. http://www.myspace.com/thesunparlour

Thanks everyone!

elusiveyouth: The Sunparlour Players are such fun! Im also really into final fantasy too. Thanks! In that vein, you should check out Devendra Barnhart, or the Castanets:

keats: as for "spiritual" I suppose I just meant any music about an individuals relation to God or truth. Coming from an athiest household that didnt give much thought to religion, Ive found it really comforting to learn about Christianity through music. Its helped ease me into the thought of joining a faith.. Im not quite sure why?

I used to be really into Bright Eyes but ive found it a big too negative to listen to recently--know what I mean?

Any more, guys?

maybe not as 'christian' or 'spiritual' but along the same wavelength: iron and wine, grizzley bear, great lake swimmers, gravenhurst, the last eels album is actually really really 'touching' as much as i hate that word.
